Ute Pass Regional Health Service District, Colorado
Community Paramedic
EMS can be more than lights, sirens, and transport.

Ute Pass Regional Health Service District is looking for compassionate, clinically strong paramedics who want to help shape the future of mobile integrated healthcare. As a Community Paramedic, you will meet patients where they are, provide thoughtful in-home and community-based care, support mental health and resource connection, and help ensure the right level of care is delivered at the right time.

The Community Paramedic serves as both a cleared Paramedic and an expanded community-based clinician within UPRHSD’s Mobile Integrated Health program. This position responds across the District’s service area, supports patients who may not need emergency department transport, and helps connect individuals with appropriate care, resources, follow-up, and support.
  • Respond to a wide range of calls, including community-based assessments, mental health situations, non-emergent interventions, and traditional 911 ambulance assignments when needed.
  • Provide advanced clinical assessment, point-of-care services, medication support, care coordination, telehealth connection, and alternative destination support within approved protocols and scope.
  • Work collaboratively with the Medical Director, Deputy Chief of Clinical Services, operations leadership, partnered providers, and community resources.
  • Support patients experiencing complex health, behavioral health, or social needs by helping them navigate care options and follow-up support.
  • Contribute to the continued growth of the MIH program through quality improvement, case review, community outreach, training, and professional collaboration.

Examples of duties

The ideal candidate is a confident paramedic first and a community-minded clinician second. They bring sound clinical judgment, humility, curiosity, and the ability to slow down, listen carefully, and find the right answer for each patient rather than defaulting to a one-size-fits-all response.
  • Believes EMS can play a meaningful role in prevention, follow-up, mental health response, and community wellness.
  • Is comfortable working independently while staying connected to the operational team and chain of command.
  • Communicates with compassion, professionalism, and respect in homes, facilities, community settings, and emergency scenes.
  • Builds trust with patients, families, colleagues, and partner agencies through consistency, empathy, and good judgment.
  • Can recognize when a situation requires emergency escalation and will activate additional resources without delay.
  • Is flexible, resilient, and energized by helping build a growing program that is redefining what EMS can do for the community.

Why Work Here?

What uniquely draws clinicians and EMS professionals to this specific district includes:
  • Pioneering "Beyond the Ambulance" Medicine: Unlike traditional services that only run lights-and-sirens to an ER, UPRHSD gives paramedics and EMTs the platform to practice true Mobile Integrated Healthcare through their dedicated Community Paramedic programProviders handle everything from complex mental health interventions to in-home preventative treatments for residents who don't need the emergency room.
  • True Clinical Autonomy in High-Stakes Environments: Operating across a sprawling mountain district means providers regularly manage high-acuity trauma and multi-county corridor responses where critical thinking and advanced field autonomy are genuinely utilized, rather than just following rigid city-transit protocols.
  • Special District Support & Stability: Because it is an independent tax-funded special district rather than a private, for-profit transfer service, it provides local government-backed stability while offering tailored perks like fully funded healthcare packages and targeted wellness stipends meant to counter operational burn-out.
