Job Summary

Provides effective outreach, delivery and evaluation of sexuality education programs to specific community groups and organizations, prioritizing LGBTQ+ and BIPOC young people. Fulfills leadership role within assigned team by taking on additional responsibilities such as peer mentorship, administrative tasks, and contributing to curriculum and program development.

Essential Functions

Delivers high quality, medically accurate, culturally responsive education programs to various community groups. Facilitates youth leadership and/or peer education programming that increases access to sex education for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ young people in the assigned region. Customizes or develops lesson plans and curricula when appropriate. Maintains fidelity and implements evidence-based programs, (EBP) where required. Conducts outreach to expand services in designated service area and assists community organizations in selecting and delivering appropriate programs. Provides leadership to the Department and team by assisting with peer mentorship and coaching, leading assigned projects, and/or developing or adapting lessons, curricula, or programs.

Major Responsibilities

In addition to the below COE responsibilities, COE Leads have the following additional responsibilities:

· Assists Education Managers with supporting and coaching Education Staff by orienting and training staff as well as organizing and leading selected trainings and team meetings.

· Supports and coaches educators on specific projects or initiatives. Supports the development of curriculum, materials, and training for Youth Leadership Programs and/or Community Education. Assists with the preparation of budgets and grants

· Demonstrates high degree of group facilitation, lesson plan design, and program management skills.

COE Responsibilities

Direct Education & Outreach

· Delivers high quality, medically accurate, age-appropriate, culturally responsive education programs on sexuality, reproductive health, and Planned Parenthood services to young people in the community.

· Facilitates adult education and training occasionally to support capacity building and Education Department goals.

· May be required to answer questions about Planned Parenthood services, including procedural and medication abortions.

· Represents the agency at community gatherings and events, in coordination with staff of PPAA to ensure no duplication of efforts.

· Adapts teaching and facilitation style and technique to meet the diverse needs of community partners and youth from a culturally-responsive perspective.

· Facilitates skillfully through cultural difference and understands and effectively manages complex group dynamics within youth programming.

· Engages in in informal and structured conversations with diverse groups by listening, contributing, developing understanding and relationships, and integrating diverse perspectives, and building consensus.

· When appropriate, maintains fidelity to established curricula and program models and implements evidence-based programs (EBPs).

· Builds and maintains authentic and reciprocal relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and others invested in young people, with a priority placed on BIPOC and LGBTQ+ youth populations.

· Provides technical assistance to community partners, including but not limited to school district staff, teachers, and community organizations, to promote the implementation of sex education.

· Conducts community assessments of services and programs and initiates outreach efforts with LGBTQ+ and BIPOC organizations and stakeholders.

Youth Development

· Facilitates youth leadership and/or peer education programming for youth in the community. May assist in the development of such programs. This may include the Teen Council peer education program, or other youth leadership or peer education programs as assigned.

· Responsibilities may include establishing relationships with youth; recruiting youth; meeting regularly (often during evenings or weekends) with youth; facilitating education sessions and community-based impact projects in partnership with youth; providing support and recognition to youth; and planning, tracking, and completing program evaluation activities.

· Contributes to soliciting youth voice and guidance related to affiliate and/or Education Department programs and goals.

· May provide support of Education interns and volunteers.

Education Department Support

· Works collaboratively with Education staff on a range of team-based initiatives, such as departmental workgroups, lesson plan reviews, and retreats.

· When appropriate, customizes lesson plans and curricula or develops new lesson plans and curricula for education and training efforts.

· Utilizes appropriate education and technology methodologies and ensures cultural sensitivity..

· Prepares and distributes educational and informational materials for education programs and responds to requests for materials.

· Skillfully uses multiple communication techniques and learning platforms to engage community members and staff, such as virtual, web-based, print, phone, and culturally responsive language.

· Collaborates across departments to support cross-functional initiatives, such as grant development, communications content, and community engagement activities.

Data Tracking & Management

· Provides reports on educational and outreach activities and other data and reporting requirements as necessary.

· Completes administrative tasks, such as tracking program activities, completing data entry, expense reports, scheduling, and communicating in a timely manner.

Professional Development

· Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing networks.

Supervisory Responsibilities

· Supervises volunteers, interns, and teen council members at community events and in the provision of high-quality sexual health education in schools and/or for community partners.

Education/Qualifications

· BA/BS in related field typically required. Consideration may be given for progress toward completion of an applicable BA/BS degree or other applicable experience or education/training.

Experience

· Minimum of five years of experience as an educator, trainer, and/or working with youth.

· Two years of experience delivering education or other services in BIPOC and/or LGBTQ+ communities preferred.

· Two years of experience facilitating youth leadership or peer education groups strongly preferred.

· Sexual and reproductive health knowledge.

· Experience with outreach, recruitment, and relationship building.

Other:

• Ability to travel;, primarily local travel, which is frequent and anticipated to average 20%.
• Must have access to car.
• Valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance required.
