POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The role will provide direct nursing services to clients, residents, and program participants of various facilities of The Salvation Army.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.
• Provide comprehensive nursing care that is evidence-informed to the individuals TSA supports: nursing assessment, development of nursing care plan as needed, nursing clinical care, evaluation of health outcomes, health teaching and promotion.
• Nursing clinical care may include but is not limited to the following: basic wound care, medication administration, vaccination, pain management, symptom management.
• Work with the senior leaders to identify and develop medical or health protocols to improve the quality of care provided to Participants
• Be the point of contact for staff who experience symptoms of infectious diseases, require isolation, or require clearance to return to work after testing or isolation to provide direction on next steps.
• Provide leadership in medical and health documentation and the updating of resident medical history.
• Participate in Individual Support Plan meetings.
• Support frontline staff and managers with communication of patient information to and from other external agencies or other sectors through written methods, attendance at case conferences or hospital discharge planning meetings.
• Support the senior leaders in the Standard of Excellence processes, if required.
• Support the senior leaders in the implementation of Infection Prevention and Control measures which includes but is not limited to assisting draft protocols/policies, providing training, and performing audits, if required.
• Travel to different sites/between sites, if required.
• Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
Internal relationships: MU team, volunteers.
External relationships: Caregivers, families, agencies, other stakeholders.

MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports directly to the Executive Director.
Direct reports: None.
• Accountable to provide functional advice, training, direction, and guidance regularly to front line staff to ensure proper health care management of all residents without having direct authority over them.
• May also provide staff training and performance management recommendations to Manager for consideration, specifically in relation to the field of health care.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:
• Moderate material responsibility (access to confidential information, some medications, software if applicable, etc.).
• Ensures proper usage of Personal Protective Equipment
• Ensures proper usage of Rapid Antigen Tests/PCR Tests in house.
• May be authorized to spend small amounts of petty cash.
• May have some input to annual budget, with respect to own job.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Work is mostly performed indoors.
• Exposed to medications, bodily fluids, waste, and other hazardous materials.
• May be expected to travel to client's homes and group homes.
• May be required to work various shifts including evenings, overnights, and weekends. Flexibility is required.
• Programs support individuals that may exhibit behavioural issues. Will be required to be trained and certified in NVCI (non-violent crisis intervention and prevention) and First Aid.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
• Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
• Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a provincially/federally recognized institution.
• Membership to the provincial organization and in good standing.
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR level C or ability to obtain within the first 2 weeks of hire.

Experience and Knowledge:
• Requires 2 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in community health, acute care, mental health and/or long-term care is preferred.
• Experience working with individuals with developmental disability and/or mental health disorders is an asset.

Skills and Capabilities:
• Strong written and verbal communication of information that enables effective engagement with the individuals we support, frontline staff, leadership and external care partners.
• Excellent communication skills with a diverse population whose communication may be limited, impaired, or atypical.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills and a collaborative team approach to create a working climate that is positive and mutually supportive.
• Demonstrated commitment and ability to treat others with respect, dignity and tact, as well as the ability to care for people with differing abilities.
• Strong assessment skills.
• Attentive to detail and values accurate information.
• Ability to maintain the confidentiality of highly sensitive information is mandatory.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development.
• Demonstrates relevant understanding of, and compliance with, legislative knowledge of the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Act, collective agreement and other applicable legislation as required.
• Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adapt to a fast-changing environment.
• May require a valid provincial driver’s license and has a clear driver’s abstract as well as access to personal vehicle if there is no program vehicle.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $33.77 to $42.21 with a maximum of $50.66.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
