This Community Mentoring Officer – Targeted Interventions role is an opportunity to make a lasting difference to the lives of young people across Greater Manchester. Working with colleagues, partners and local agencies, you will lead targeted mentoring programmes that support young people to overcome barriers, build resilience and create positive futures.

Who We Are

Established in 1986, City in the Community is Manchester City’s official charity. We support people across Manchester by empowering healthier lives through football. Our programmes place physical and mental wellbeing at their core, whilst also creating healthy futures and healthy communities.

Within our Targeted Interventions team, we deliver mentoring programmes that support young people facing complex challenges, helping them build confidence, develop life skills and reduce the risk of involvement in criminality. Working alongside schools, local authorities, Greater Manchester Police and other key partners, we use the power of positive relationships to help young people reach their potential.

The Role

You will coordinate City in the Community's targeted mentoring programmes, including City Ready and City Mentoring, ensuring high-quality, safe and engaging provision for young people across Greater Manchester.

Day to day, you will oversee programme delivery, maintain strong relationships with schools, local authorities, Greater Manchester Police, Youth Offending Teams and other key partners, while monitoring outcomes and ensuring programmes achieve agreed KPIs.

Alongside programme coordination, you will support the development of mentors and coaches through training and CPD, contribute to budget management and help embed safeguarding and organisational policies across all delivery, ensuring every young person receives the highest standard of support.

What You'll Bring

Experience supporting young people at risk of criminality or youth violence through community-based programmes.

A strong understanding of youth work principles and the criminal justice system.

Experience working with schools, local authorities and external partners to deliver positive outcomes.

Excellent communication skills, with confidence delivering training or presentations.

GCSEs in English, Maths and Science, with strong Microsoft Office skills. A relevant degree would be an advantage.

A resilient, inclusive and adaptable approach. Experience of Premier League Charitable Fund programmes or secure settings would be beneficial.

Why Choose Us

Guided by our values of being caring, inclusive, transformative and youth-led, we are committed to creating an environment where our team feel supported, valued and able to make a meaningful difference through the work they do every day.

As part of our team, you will receive 26 days’ annual leave plus a day off for your birthday and an annual discretionary bonus. You will also have access to a Health Cash Plan, Employee Assistance Programme with 24/7 GP support, and a company pension and life assurance.

You can enjoy a range of additional benefits, including discounted match tickets, savings in the City Store, a free City+ subscription, stadium tour discounts, and wider retail and lifestyle offers.
