Your Specific Responsibilities:

This professional nursing position delivers services to clients in Primary Care, Family Planning, STD, HIV, Immunizations, and Pediatrics under the direct supervision of the Community Health Nursing Consultant. This position is required to provide services at outlying satellite clinics of ACHD as needed and mileage will not be reimbursed. This position is required to achieve and maintain a fundamental working knowledge of the Incident Command System.

Nursing Assessment:

The Community Health Registered Nurse will:

1. Apply nursing principles and techniques in the care and treatment of clients

2. Administer prescribed medications ensuring the Rights of Medication Administration

3. Log out all medications administered

4. Utilize nursing protocols in the care of clients

5. Provide client and family education and make appropriate referrals as indicated

6. Evaluates Immunization status and administers immunizations per protocol using correct techniques as outlined in procedure manual.

7. Accurately documents all services provided.

Quality Improvement and Assurance:

The Community Health Registered Nurse will:

1. Assist with chart reviews and other QI activities to improve clinic functions and to meet the ACHD mission statement and goals.

2. Attend professional meetings to maintain and update nursing skills

3. Will attend staff meetings or be required to read the minutes to maintain working knowledge of changes in the organization

4. Will assist with the orientation of new employees and students

Team Building:

The Community Health Registered Nurse will:

1. Assist with orientation of new employees and students

2. Function as a team member by utilizing effective communication skills, assisting practitioners, and demonstrating leadership skills to support staff.

Other duties:

1. Incumbent may be required to work beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency operation functions of the Incumbent include but are not limited to Special Needs Shelters, Red Cross Shelters, or other emergency functions.

2. Required to complete ICS 100 and NIMS 700 within 3 months of initial employment and provide documentation of successful completion. Required to attend any additional ICS or NIMS training as assigned.

Responsible for securing the designated information sets for the purpose of protecting confidentiality, data integrity, and appropriate access of all information, both confidential and public.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:

Knowledge of professional nursing and public health principles, practices and techniques in specialized areas

Knowledge of the theories and concepts of preventive health care

Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology

Knowledge in use of medical equipment (glucometer, blood pressure monitoring devices, thermometer, scale, etc.)

Knowledge and application of infection control practices.

Knowledge of immunization practices and schedules.

Skilled in the application of nursing theory in specialized areas

Skilled in nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation

Skilled in phlebotomy and venipuncture

Skills to effectively utilize computer software systems, include MS office Word, Excel, and Outlook application

Ability to plan, organize, prioritize workload, and coordinate work assignments

Ability to work independently and with a team

Ability to work with participants having a variety of physical problems and/or health concerns

Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, verbally (one the phone and in person) and in writing

Ability to communicate health education to various populations and educational levels

Ability to work under busy circumstances at times and be able to multi-task

Ability to be responsible for accuracy, timeliness, and thoroughness of own work and to perform such work in accordance with procedural and policy guidelines

Must maintain an absolute commitment to protecting the confidentiality of participant and agency information handled daily

Qualifications:

Minimum - This occupation requires licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes and in accordance with Rule 64B9, Florida Administrative Code. BLS/AED Certified, Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred – Experience with child and adult immunizations and schedule.

Experience with FL Shots online immunization information system
