Job Description

Title: Community Health Assistant.

Location: Syria-Der ez zour.

Department: Health.

Reporting to: Health and Nutrition Coordinator.

Direct reports: Community health team leaders.

Closing Date: 31 July 2026

Job Profile:

The CH & Nutrition Assistant is responsible for assisting and supporting H&N Coordinator in NES. The position holder shall ensure implementation of project activities and shall build capacity for CHWs staff, ensure timely and quality program reporting for direct supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:



  1. Organize and facilitate health education sessions covering topics such as balanced diets, hygiene, disease prevention, and preventive healthcare measures.
  2. Assist H&N coordinator and medical officers to develop Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials on health topics with appropriate pictures for illiterate people as well as develop visual aids for new CHWs.
  3. Assist H&N coordinator and medical officers to conduct initial and refresher training for camp-based community health workers
  4. Assist H&N coordinator and medical officers to oversee and supervise camp-based community health workers for the material request and maintenance including audio-visual equipment.
  5. Collaborate with local leaders and community groups to promote health and nutrition initiatives, including the development and implementation of community-based programs.
  6. Conduct health assessments, screenings, and provide simple health education about basic first aid and initial care for minor injuries and illnesses within the community.
  7. Support nutrition officer in breastfeeding education, infant feeding practices, and assist in the distribution of nutritional supplements and medications, while also monitoring their usage.
  8. Participate in disease surveillance and reporting within the community and contribute to the documentation of community health data and reports.
  9. Assist in coordinating immunization campaigns, conducting relevant training, and supporting nutrition activities, including the collection and analysis of data.
  10. Work closely with H&N coordinator and other team members to conduct education sessions and campaigns to improve hand washing and hygiene practices.
  11. Assist H&N coordinator in organizing meetings with the community representatives and leaders to ensure community participation and the smooth implementation of the community health project as appropriate.
  12. Distribute health education materials to target community, and keep track of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials stock.
  13. Serve as a liaison between community members and healthcare facilities to ensure continuity of care, facilitate access to healthcare services, and organize meetings to ensure community participation in health projects.

Person Specification:



Skills, knowledge and expertise required for the role.

  • A degree or diploma in public health, Nutrition, Nurse, community health, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of community health practices, nutrition education, and public health principles.
  • Experience in community outreach, engagement, and health education programs.
  • Familiarity with nutrition assessment, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse community members.
  • Understanding of local cultural practices and their impact on health and nutrition.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals, community leaders, and local organizations.
  • Proficiency in data collection, reporting, and basic analysis related to community health and nutrition.
  • Knowledge of hygiene, sanitation, and disease prevention practices.
  • Awareness of relevant local and national health policies and guidelines.
  • Experience working closely with other stakeholders in NES area.
  • Strong liaison, diplomatic skills, and ability to handle stress.
  • Computer skills, in particular email, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • English, both written and spoken, is desirable
