Studio Schools of Australia (SSA) was established in 2019 to bring about a “system” level change in secondary education for Indigenous students in remote communities across northern Australia. This “system level” reform is based on well-established evidence of what works for Indigenous students, their families and communities, in a scalable, proven work-related model of education introduced at the Yiramalay / Wesley Studio School in the Kimberley, Western Australia, in 2010.

The Community Engagement Officer and Registrar plays a crucial role in fostering strong relationships between the school and its community while managing student enrolment and records. This multi-faceted position involves developing and implementing strategies to enhance community involvement, acting as the primary liaison between the school and local stakeholders, and organising community events and communications. Additionally, the role involves overseeing the enrolment and registration process, maintaining accurate student records, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing administrative support for admissions. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills, with a passion for education and community engagement. You will help create a supportive and collaborative environment that enhances the educational experience for students and strengthens the school's connection to its community.

The Four Circles of Learning are embedded within the school, providing a holistic educational framework. This framework integrates Indigenous Language and Culture, Academic Learning, Personal and Social Learning, and Enterprise Learning to provide a holistic education. The mother circle of Indigenous Language and Culture circle grounds students in their cultural identity, boosting their self-efficacy and sense of self. Academic Learning focuses on intellectual development and preparing students for the future by enhancing their capacity for independent learning. Personal and Social Learning helps students envision a confident and successful future as Indigenous Australians. Finally, Enterprise Learning aims to develop dispositions in our students to ensure they become productive members of local community, who are driven to support those around them.

Operational Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategies to enhance community involvement and partnerships
• Act as the primary liaison between the school and the local community, including parents, families, businesses, and organisations
• Organise and participate in community events, meetings to promote school programs and initiatives developed in partnership with community
• Manage communication channels such as newsletters, social media, and school websites to keep the community informed and engaged
• Facilitate parental involvement in school activities, ensuring parents are informed and engaged in their children's education
• Collaborate with external partners to create opportunities for students, such as internships, workshops, and community service projects
• Oversee the enrolment and registration process for new and returning students, ensuring accurate and efficient data entry
• Maintain and update student records, including personal information, academic records, and attendance
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and policies regarding student records and confidentiality
• Assist families with Abstudy applications
• Prepare and manage enrolment reports, statistics, and other data as required by the Principals

• Coordinate the transfer of student records to and from other educational institutions.
• Assist with the preparation and distribution of academic reports, transcripts, and other official documents
• Provide administrative support for school admissions processes, including conducting tours and providing information to prospective families

Skills and Capabilities

• Bachelor’s degree in education, Communications, Administration, or a related field, and/or experience in community engagement, public relations or a similar role
• A strong interest in Aboriginal culture, traditions and issues, and a valuing of diversity
• A strong interest in working with young Aboriginal people so they can experience success and flourish
• Strong administrative and organisational skills, with experience in record-keeping
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with student information systems or database management
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines
• Knowledge of educational environments and an understanding of the importance of community involvement in schools
• Collaborative and team orientated

Desirable

• Experience with Aboriginal students and communities or in a culturally diverse setting.
