Our Branch

As part of the Governance and Legal Services Group, Strategic Communication and Engagement branch consists of strategic thinkers with expertise in all communication disciplines. The branch leads the centre-led coordination of Council’s communication and messaging, ensuring residents experience one unified voice across all touchpoints as ‘One Council’.

The Role

As a Community Engagement Officer, you will help shape Council's projects by being an advocate for good community outcomes and informing and engaging the community at all parts of a project development from planning to delivery. Working across a diverse portfolio of projects, you will plan, deliver and evaluate communication and community engagement activities that support informed decision-making.

You will act as the first point of contact for project teams, stakeholders and community members, building trusted relationships and representing Council in the community. Using your strategic thinking skills and with the support of your team leader, you will identify engagement risks, opportunities and emerging issues, helping project teams understand community perspectives and make informed decisions.

Working collaboratively with internal and external partners, you will also contribute to reporting, evaluation and the continuous improvement of communication and engagement practices.

To be successful you will bring:

• understanding of communication and community engagement in a local government context
• experience developing communication and engagement strategies and plans (online and in person), including identifying challenges, audiences, messages and methods
• strong written and verbal communication skills
• ability to build positive working relationships with diverse stakeholders in a customer-focused environment
• project management skills, including managing deadlines, production of materials, and reporting on outcomes
