Community Engagement Coordinator

Location: Lagos, Nigeria
Employment Type: Full-Time
Industry: Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) / Development Sector
Experience Level: Mid-Level (3 – 6 Years Preferred)
Salary Budget: ₦250,000 Monthly

We are seeking a passionate, empathetic, and culturally aware Community Engagement Coordinator to strengthen relationships between the organization and local communities. The ideal candidate will lead community sensitization efforts, foster trust, manage stakeholder relationships, and address cultural barriers that may affect program implementation and impact.

Key Responsibilities

1. Community Relationship Management


  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, stakeholders, and beneficiaries.

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the organization and local communities.

  • Facilitate regular engagement meetings and feedback sessions.

2. Community Sensitization & Outreach


  • Plan and implement community sensitization campaigns for programs and interventions.

  • Educate communities on organizational initiatives, health/social programs, or development projects.

  • Support awareness creation activities to drive participation and acceptance.

3. Cultural Engagement & Barrier Management


  • Identify cultural, social, and behavioral barriers affecting program adoption.

  • Develop culturally appropriate engagement strategies to improve acceptance.

  • Work closely with program teams to ensure cultural sensitivity in implementation.

4. Stakeholder Coordination


  • Collaborate with local authorities, NGOs, and community-based organizations.

  • Support field activities and ensure smooth community entry for project teams.

  • Represent the organization at community events and forums.

5. Reporting & Documentation


  • Maintain accurate records of community interactions, feedback, and activities.

  • Provide regular reports on community engagement outcomes and challenges.

  • Share insights to improve program design and delivery.

Qualifications & Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Public Health, or related field.

  • 3 – 6 years' experience in community engagement, NGO field work, or development programs.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.

  • Good understanding of local cultural dynamics and community structures.

  • Ability to work in field environments and travel when required.

  • Fluency in English and local languages is an added advantage.
