Reporting to the Director of Community Wellness Centers, the Community Engagement Ambassador serves as a strategic leader and trusted representative of IEHP within the Inland Empire. This role is responsible for building, developing, and managing high-impact community partnerships, designing and executing innovative engagement strategies, and strengthening IEHP’s presence across diverse communities to support member retention, benefit awareness, and organizational priorities.
The Ambassador operates with a high degree of independence by initiating new ideas, creating localized engagement plans, and leveraging quality, member, and community insights to identify emerging needs, new Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), and key partners. This position collaborates closely with city officials, community leaders, providers, and cross-functional IEHP teams to co-develop events, training sessions, and initiatives that advance IEHP’s Mission, Vision, Values, and Live Well IE objectives.
The Ambassador is also responsible for maintaining subject matter expertise in IEHP Marketing and Outreach policies, Medi Cal and Medicare benefits, and all applicable federal, state, regulatory, contractual, and accreditation requirements governing community engagement activities. The incumbent ensures all public-facing communication, sponsorships, materials, and partnerships remain compliant, accurate, culturally responsive, and audit-ready, and serves as a knowledgeable point of contact during audit processes involving community engagement activities.
In partnership with Community Wellness Centers and internal departments, the Ambassador collects and applies community and member data to inform strategy, improve service connection, and strengthen overall member experience. The role requires exceptional relationship-building, strategic thinking, program execution, and the ability to exercise dotted-line leadership and guidance across both internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
Community Representation and Outreach:Represent IEHP as a strategic ambassador at community events, health fairs, conferences, and public forums. Build and execute new engagement strategies tailored to regional needs, using insights from community partners, quality data, and internal analytics. Independently develop event concepts, partnership engagement plans, and localized outreach approaches to support member retention and organizational priorities across all lines of business.
Relationship Building and Partnership Development:Build, strengthen, and manage strategic relationships with county and city officials, CBOs, faith-based organizations, academic institutions, providers, and other community partners. Identify and cultivate new CBOs and key partners based on emerging needs, quality trends, and regional priorities. Exercise dotted-line influence and provide guidance to partners and internal stakeholders to strengthen the community network and enhance member engagement.
Strategic Initiative and Program Support:Design, initiate, and lead new community engagement strategies aimed at improving member retention, service utilization, and community trust. Collaborate with Marketing, Sales, and Quality to align new ideas and strategies with organizational objectives. Lead event planning and execution with each CBO, including concept creation, logistics oversight, partner coordination, and post-event evaluation.
Community Sponsorship and Resource Coordination:Maintain subject-matter expertise and current knowledge of IEHP Marketing and Outreach policies, DHCS and Medi-Cal requirements, and all applicable federal, state, contractual, and accreditation guidelines governing community engagement. Ensure all outreach strategies, partnerships, sponsorships, educational presentations, materials, and public-facing communications remain compliant, accurate, culturally responsive, and audit-ready. Serve as a point of contact during audit processes for community engagement-related inquiries.
Member Data and Care Gap Support:Collect, analyze, and apply regional member data, quality insights, and community feedback to refine engagement strategies and identify opportunities for member retention. Coordinate follow-up with clinical teams and other departments to address member needs, support service navigation, and help close care gaps.
Community Wellness Center Collaboration:Partner with Community Wellness Center leadership to drive member engagement, expand CWC utilization, and strengthen community presence. Plan and execute partner network meetings and promote access to IEHP programs, services, and resources.
Committee and Workgroup Participation:Lead or co-lead Regional Tables and other community work groups. Manage scheduling, agenda development, logistics, and facilitation. Represent IEHP and Live Well IE as a trusted regional leader, providing insights, coordination, and strategic support across multiple business units. Ensure follow-up on action items and alignment with internal strategies.
Knowledge and Performance Expectations:Serve as a knowledgeable, ethical, and high-visibility representative of IEHP’s Mission, Vision, Values, and Live Well IE. Maintain advanced understanding of IEHP benefits, Medicare, Medi Cal, and organizational programs. Meet monthly performance metrics related to community engagement, partner development, member referrals, and regional impact.
Perform any other duties as required to ensure Health Plan operations and department business needs are successful.Qualifications
Education & Requirements
- At least three (3) years of outreach or managed care experience required
- Experience in health plan or market/sales services related work required
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Development, Public Health, Sociology, or any related field from an accredited institution required
- In lieu of the required degree, a minimum of four (4) years of additional relevant work experience is required for this position
- This experience is in addition to the minimum years listed in the Experience Requirements above
- Must be able to satisfactorily pass IEHP’s Medi-Cal Marketing test within three (3) months of employment
Key Qualifications
- Must have a valid California Driver’s license and valid automobile insurance
- Must qualify and maintain driving record to drive company vehicles based on IEHP insurance standards of no more than three (3) points
- Understanding and sensitivity to a multi-cultural environment and community
- Knowledge of Medicare managed care and Medi-Cal managed care preferred
- Bilingual (IEHP Threshold Language) preferred
- Verbal and written, word processing, and spreadsheet capabilities. Data input and basic analysis
- Excellent interpersonal/communication skills, public speaking, and presentations skills with communities of diverse education, socio-economic, cultural, and professional backgrounds

- Community Engagement Ambassadors have on-going, face-to-face, and group connections, conversations, and presentations with IEHP members, general community, community/faith-based agencies, and other partnering agencies and leaders

Work Model Location
This position is a field-based position, with a minimum of 60% travel required.

Pay Range
USD $71,572.80 - USD $93,038.40 /Yr.
