Summary

The Community Enforcement Supervisor oversees the operations of the Community Enforcement Division of the Brunswick County Planning and Community Enforcement Department. Under limited supervision, the position supervises Community Enforcement staff, manages enforcement compliance activities, and provides education to help abate complaints concerning alleged violations and enforcement of Brunswick County Development Ordinances and the Solid Waste Ordinance. Utilizes general knowledge of practices and procedures associated with ordinance compliance and zoning in reviewing complaints and proactively developing solutions to resolve complaints. This position provides support and assistance to employees including, but not limited to, the County Attorney, the Zoning Administrator, and the Planning Director regarding Community Enforcement matters. Supervises, trains, and supports assigned staff. Utilizes considerable tact, firmness, and courtesy in dealing with the general public, property owners, contractors, etc. while enforcing regulations. Reports to the Planning Director.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with coursework in planning, engineering, zoning or planning law, public or business administration, or a related field, AND five (5) years of experience working with zoning ordinances and/or regulatory enforcement, including at least one (1) year of lead or supervisory responsibility; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position. A valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License is also required.

Physical Requirements

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including a computer, copier, car, facsimile machine, adding machine, etc., as well as other tools required of Codes Enforcement Officers. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to stoop, climb, crawl, bend and stand for periods. Must be able to lift weights of up to 40 pounds. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work
