Job Description

We are seeking an active, high-energy mentor and respite companion to support two local young men with autism in the San Diego area. This role focuses strictly on community outings, outdoor recreation, and helping the clients stay active, build social skills, and engage in the community.

If you love being outdoors, playing sports, and making a direct impact as a positive role model, this is the perfect opportunity.

Meet the Clients:

  • Client 1 (14 years old, Location: Pacific Beach): This client has ADHD and autism. He is high-energy and starting football season in July. He is looking for a male mentor to hang out with locally in the PB, La Jolla, and Mission Beach areas. Outings include going to the mall, hitting up Dave & Buster's, or just hanging out. Shifts will primarily be weekdays (Wednesday afternoons) and Saturdays, with flexibility around his football practice schedule.

  • Client 2 (20 years old, Location: Hillcrest area): This client is a sweet, active young man with autism who has no behavioral challenges. He absolutely loves the water and the outdoors. He is looking for an active companion to go boogieboarding, swimming, biking, dancing, or catching a movie. He will also be attending various camps and local San Diego Autism Society meetups.

What You Will Do:

  • Act as a positive peer mentor and "big brother" figure to encourage social confidence and community interaction.

  • Accompany the clients on their respective community outings (sports, beach excursions, movies, and local hangouts).

  • Provide safe transportation to and from activities. You must use your own vehicle to drive the clients around for their outings. On-the-job mileage will be fully reimbursed.

Ideal Candidate & Requirements:

  • Transportation Requirement: The ideal candidate must have their own reliable car and be completely willing to drive the clients around to various activities and community spots. A valid driver's license and clean driving record are required.

  • Client Preference: Due to the specific nature of the recreational activities (football, surfing/boogieboarding, beach runs) and both clients' explicit personal preferences for a male peer dynamic, a male candidate is strongly preferred by the families.

  • Must be active, reliable, and comfortable with water sports and outdoor recreational activities.

Compensation: $19.00 - $20.00 per hour
