As a Community Engagement Volunteer, you will play an important role supporting St Petrocs in your local area.

The role will involve your support to raise an understanding of homelessness and St Petrocs’ work in your community.

You’ll give short talks, run information stands, or represent the charity at local events and schools.

By sharing stories and facts, you’ll help challenge stigma and inspire people to support change.

We ask for a minimum commitment of attending 3 events per year.

Key Responsibilities

You will work closely with the Engagement Team providing support which may include:

  • Delivering short talks and presentations to schools, clubs, or faith groups (resources provided).
  • Attending local events or awareness days to represent St Petrocs.
  • Sharing information and answering questions about homelessness and our services.
  • Encouraging others to get involved through volunteering, fundraising, or donations.

In order to volunteer with us, after registering/applying for this role you will be contacted to discuss the role further. You will then be invited to attend an informal chat/taster session, where we can introduce you fully to St Petrocs and support you with onboarding as a volunteer for us if you wish to proceed further.

Volunteering should be accessible to everyone, regardless of experience or qualification. The only criteria we expect from someone in this role are detailed below:

Essential Criteria

  • Commitment to ending homelessness in Cornwall
  • Reliability and agreement on how much time you can commit to the role.
  • Proactive and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Responsibility for own and others health and safety whilst undertaking the tasks.
  • Can maintain confidentiality as required.
  • Always represent St Petrocs in a professional manner.
  • Be knowledgeable about the work of St Petrocs or eager to learn more and be confident when answering people’s questions.
  • Confident in talking in public with strong presentation, communication and organisational skills.
  • Can make own arrangements to required venues.
