Job Description

The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) invests in a network of community-based organizations and programs to alleviate the effects of poverty and to provide opportunities for New Yorkers and communities to flourish. DYCDs Beacon Community Center is comprised of over 90 school-based programs serving young people enrolled in grades K-12 during afterschool hours; and Young Adults/Older Adults and families in the evening and on weekends. Through its network of community partners, Beacon Community Centers offers high quality programs that offer a strong balance of academic enrichment, recreation, cultural and skill building activities that build 21st century skills. Beacon community partners are awarded funds through a competitive Request for Proposal (RFP) process. Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, with latitude to exercise independent action and decision making, the Program Manager will be responsible for over 15 sites and perform the following duties:

1. Monitor and evaluate Community-Based Organization (CBO) Community Center contracts.

2. Review, provide feedback and approve annual programming scope of work.

3. Will be required to conduct site visits during late afternoon, evening and weekends.

4. Provide technical assistance and direct work improvement or corrective action for
underperforming CBOs.

5. Evaluate contract performance reports, as well as agency fiscal documents to ensure
contract compliance.

6. Become proficient and provide training to CBOs on DYCD Connect, DYCD innovative,
web-based program management system.

7. Make summary reports to higher administrative levels along with recommendations to
improve program performance.

8. Prepare standard reports to higher management.

9. Knowledgeable of Youth Development and Youth Leadership standards and ability to
develop and integrate practices into program development.

10. Carry out special assignments, tasks and projects assigned by senior management
as needed.

Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
