SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Community Center is part of The Salvation Army’s holistic ministry, addressing the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of individuals and families. The Center provides a safe and respectful environment that fosters self-worth, encourages creative expression, and promotes positive interactions, fair play, and peaceful conflict resolution.

The Community Center Assistant Director supports this mission by assisting in the coordination and delivery of programs, with primary responsibility for arts programming. This role also supports the Community Center Director in the leadership and oversight of programs, staff, and volunteers. In the Director’s absence, the Assistant Director provides operational support to ensure continuity of Community Center activities.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, schedule, implement, and supervise arts activities for youth programs within the Community Center
  • Work effectively with children of all ages in a structured and supportive environment
  • Support and enforce program rules established by the Community Center Director to maintain a safe and positive setting
  • Participate in all phases of programming, including setup, arrival, cleanup, and dismissal
  • Assist with seasonal programs and special initiatives, including Christmas applications, Marines Toys for Tots, and the Christmas Toy Shop
  • Assist in the supervision and coordination of staff, volunteers, and activities for the following programs:
  • Kids Café
  • Joy of Reading Program
  • Teen Night Program
  • Summer Day Camp
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels, including volunteer coordination, and confirm that necessary food and supplies are available for all programs
  • Maintain accurate statistical reporting for contract requirements and Salvation Army reporting
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all program participants, staff, and volunteers
  • Represent The Salvation Army at community meetings, outreach efforts, and fundraising events
  • Collaborate with Corps Officers to develop and implement new programs and special events for youth, families, and seniors, and to identify community resources
  • Other duties as assigned by the Community Center Director and/or Corps Officers

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position assists the Community Center Director in supervising staff and volunteers involved in Community Center programming.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s degree and two years of related experience.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple programs and priorities simultaneously
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact with children, families, staff, and community partners
  • Ability and willingness to network within the community
  • Ability to coordinate and support staff and volunteers in a program environment
  • Valid New Hampshire Driver’s License
  • First Aid and CPR certification

COMPLIANCE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of KeepSAfe abuse risk management training as required by the KeepSAfe policy and assigned by the supervisor
  • Completion of any additional training required or assigned by The Salvation Army
