POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The role will provide general support to various services in the Community and Family Services setting of a Ministry Unit.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.
Client Services and Programs
- Conduct initial intake assessment to determine immediate needs and support needed by the client.
- Provide emergency assistance services, i.e., food, clothing, household needs in accordance with policy
- Support the Manager in the planning, coordination, and delivery of seasonal and special programs (e.g., Christmas Hamper, Christmas Kettles, Food Drive, Backpack); execute assigned tasks to ensure ministry objectives and spiritual focus are successfully maintained.
- Assist the manager with daily food bank activities; maintain warehouse cleanliness, monitor inventory levels, sort incoming donations, and provide frontline support to food bank clients.
- Network and refer to The Salvation Army, government, and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and program when necessary.
Supervision
- Assist the manager with volunteer coordination by helping to onboard, schedule, and demonstrate work methods to volunteers; foster a collaborative team environment that supports the ministries and objectives of The Salvation Army.
- May assist in the development of strategies and recommendations for volunteer development.
- In consultation with the supervisor, organize regular meetings with volunteers.
Finance and Administration
- Ensure that Ministry Unit policies and procedures are followed for the safe/secure handling of all monetary donations received and appropriate documentation of gift cards and various vouchers is maintained, i.e., clothing and household goods Thrift Store vouchers.
- Maintain written records, logs of activities, including activity reports and statistical information
- Periodically review program assistance guidelines with supervisor.
- Maintain accurate records of client information in Link2Feed and on The Salvation Army’s computer system while maintaining confidentiality.
- In coordination with CFS Manager or designate receive financial and food donations in compliance with Salvation Army policy.
- Minor material responsibility (proper use of food, proper file handling, etc.)
- Regular responsibility for minor financial matters and for wise use of own resources.
- May be authorized to handle cash, during major campaigns.
- Little input to annual budget or revenue projections.

Health & Safety:
- Ensure that the food bank and area is maintained regarding appearance, condition and safety as recommended by Public Health etc.
- Ensure the safety and comfort of the ministry unit by maintaining cleanliness and food safety etc.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Working environment is typically in the corps building in generally agreeable conditions and some outdoor duties.
• This is a regular full-time position based on 40 hours per week.
• Some work over weekends and evenings may be required.
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
• May deal with upset people or challenging behaviours.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
• Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
• Completion of a formal post-secondary program of two academic years
• An alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.
• CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training or willingness to complete once hired.
Experience and Knowledge:
• Two years of relevant experience
• Comfortable using and maintaining a digital database
• Knowledge and skill in social media platforms and management
• Experience in event planning

- Ability to prioritize, organize and manage multiple tasks; the ability to complete assignments and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background check search.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $38,064.00 to $47,569.60 with a maximum of $57,075.20.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
