The role

As a Communications Technician, you’ll play a vital role in supporting defence operations by ensuring critical communication systems are reliable, maintained, and ready for use. Working as part of a skilled team, you’ll inspect, diagnose, and repair communications equipment used within armoured fighting vehicles, helping to keep essential assets operational.

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:

  • Inspect and test communications equipment, accurately recording findings and work requirements
  • Carry out Level 1 repairs in line with approved procedures and high-quality standards
  • Identifying faults, ordering spare parts, and preparing equipment for further repair when required
  • Responding to communication equipment breakdowns, both during working hours and on a rostered basis

The role is based onsite at Bovington, and the set working times are Monday to Thursday 08:00 to 16:30 and Friday 08:00 to 15:00, totalling 39 hours per week.

Essential experience of the Communications Technician:

  • Be aged 21 or over (vehicle insurance requirement)
  • Be physically fit and able to undertake manual handling tasks
  • Have a practical, hands-on approach to technical work
  • Demonstrate reliability and attention to detail
  • Work effectively as part of a team in a safety-focused environment

Qualifications for the Communications Technician:

  • Full UK Category B driving licence

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
