The Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation (CALT) at Iowa State University is seeking a Communications Specialist II to support the Qualified Farm Tax Practitioner Training Initiative. This position plays a key role in developing, editing, and maintaining high-quality educational resources focused on agricultural taxation and practitioner training. The successful candidate will combine strong technical editing skills with expertise in digital accessibility and online instructional design to support nationally recognized educational programming delivered to agricultural professionals and stakeholders across the country.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical editing and revision for educational materials related to agricultural taxation and practitioner training programs, including maintaining a large tax workbook and related instructional resources
Collaborate with faculty, subject matter experts, and project staff to revise technical content and ensure clarity, consistency, accuracy, and adherence to established style guidelines
Review and edit instructional materials, presentations, webinars, tables, tax forms, examples, and problem sets for readability, formatting consistency, and instructional quality
Ensure all educational resources meet current digital accessibility standards using Adobe accessibility and design tools
Advise and train project staff on accessibility requirements, best practices, and compliance needs
Support the design, development, and implementation of online courses and web-based instructional materials in collaboration with faculty and project teams
Evaluate and utilize software and instructional technologies that support accessibility and online learning initiatives
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience editing complex technical or educational materials and the ability to maintain clarity, accuracy, and consistency across large publications and instructional resources. They will demonstrate strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, subject matter experts, and project teams. Experience with digital accessibility standards, Adobe accessibility tools, and online instructional or web-based educational content development is highly valued.
Preferred Qualifications
At least five years of technical copy-editing experience
Experience working with accessibility standards such as WCAG and Section 508
Experience creating or supporting online courses in a higher education, Extension, or professional training environment
Familiarity with learning management systems and online instructional technologies
Experience developing or editing instructional presentations, webinars, and training materials

The Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation (CALT) at Iowa State University provides timely, research-based information to producers, agricultural professionals, and agribusinesses on emerging issues in agricultural law and taxation. The center serves as a leading provider of professional educational programming, including courses, workbooks, webinars, and other resources used by stakeholders nationwide. CALT develops educational materials and training programs for agricultural professionals, attorneys, accountants, Extension personnel, and producers across the country.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
This is a one-year term position established for a specific project and is not expected to continue beyond eighteen months.
