Job Description

Join the Communications, Marketing & Engagement team at the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) and help tell the stories of an organization that serves nearly 86,000 students and more than 6,000 educators across Chester County.

As a Communications Specialist, you will develop and share compelling stories, create engaging digital content, support communications initiatives, and collaborate with leaders and staff across the IU. This is an opportunity to use your communications expertise to make a meaningful impact on learners, families, educators, and communities. This position is based in person at the CCIU's Educational Service Center in Downingtown, PA, five days per week. The role also requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as needed, to support CCIU events, programs, and communications initiatives.

Summary of Position:

The Communications Specialist reports directly to the Communications Manager and works closely with division leadership, administrators, and staff across the Chester County Intermediate Unit. This position supports the development and implementation of strategic communications that inform, engage, and showcase the impact of CCIU programs, services, and initiatives. The successful candidate will have strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills; the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities; and a collaborative, creative approach to communications. Working within messaging and brand guidelines established by the Communications, Marketing & Engagement team, the Communications Specialist will exercise a high level of autonomy while providing communications support to internal and external audiences.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications or related field (journalism, English, marketing) required
  • Three years of relevant professional experience required; additional experience preferred.
  • Current, within one year, Act 34, Act 151, police, child abuse & FBI Fingerprint clearances required.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate communications support and services for internal and external audiences.
  • Research, write, edit, and distribute press releases and feature stories regarding CCIU programs, events, students, and staff.
  • Assist with the development, management, and maintenance of content for CCIU social media platforms and websites.
  • Assist with the design and production of communications materials, including but not limited to brochures, flyers, and newsletters.
  • Provide communications support to CCIU schools, divisions, and school districts as needed.
  • Assist with photography and video production services for CCIU programs, events, and initiatives.
  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of CCIU events and communications initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Communications, Marketing & Engagement team and CCIU staff to support organizational communications goals.
  • Work evenings and weekends, as required, to fulfill job responsibilities, including supporting CCIU events, programs, and communications initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

$68,981 - $86,227 annually *salary will be pro-rated based on length of the assignment*

About Chester County Intermediate Unit

Created in 1971 by the Pennsylvania General Assembly, the Chester County Intermediate Unit is a regional educational service agency that exists to provide quality, cost-effective services to the community and its residents. The Chester County Intermediate Unit administers instructional, enrichment and administrative programs and services to Chester County’s 12 public school districts, and to over 45 private and parochial schools in the county. These programs include instructional, remedial and enrichment services for regular and special education students and career and technical education programs for secondary and post-secondary students. The CCIU provides direct instruction to over 5,000 students a year and support services to an additional 30,000 students a year.

In addition, the IU supports teachers, school administrators, school directors and school districts through a multitude of services, including, but not limited to: business and administrative services, communications services, technology services and human resources. The diversity of CCIU programs enables IU staff to interact with school district personnel at all levels and to maintain a cohesive educational network throughout Chester County.
