The Communication Specialist is responsible for both internal and external communications under the direction of the Communications Manager. Their pivotal role involves facilitating seamless communication between ODR, the general public, and other governmental entities by ensuring collaborative efforts and transparency. This entails crafting coherent, concise, and precise messages that effectively represent ODR’s objectives and initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Draft and design various communications materials such as brochures, print ads, internal and external communication pieces, marketing material, media kits, etc., and other related products (testimonies, newsletters, press releases, email announcements).
  • Monitor digital communication channels, including social media platforms, email addresses, and agency websites.
  • Provide communication assistance during a crisis or emergency.
  • Serve as liaison between the ODR, the public, and other government agencies.
  • Schedule, attend and/or participate in media appearances.
  • Social media management and content development.
  • Serve as a secondary point of contact for media inquiries.
  • Support leadership in furthering the goals and key strategic initiatives of the organization.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education level:
    1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in communications, journalism, public relations, or other related field
  2. Level of Experience :
    1. A minimum of two years experience in communication strategy development.
    2. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITES:

  • Knowledge of media relation practices.
  • Knowledge of government processes, policies, and regulations.
  • Ability to foster relationships with key media representatives.
  • Ability to facilitate the resolution of disputes with external/internal stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in word processing, graphic design, and desktop publishing platforms.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Organizational, multi-tasking, detail-oriented, and time-management skills are essential.
  • Ability to craft clear and understandable messages.
  • Must possess and demonstrate a high degree of written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and work under pressure.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Must possess a valid USVI driver’s license


SALARY: $55,000-$65,000
