Job Description

HealthPartners is hiring for a full-time Communications Principal Consultant. This role will primarily support business partners such as human resources, IT and security on internal communication.

STATEMENT:

Principal Communications Consultants drive strategy planning and project oversight on large and complex projects, often with focused areas of specialized expertise. They have deep, specialized knowledge and experience in their area of communications and are able to apply this expertise across one of more areas of the business. Principal Communications Consultants are strategic advisors and influencers, capable of assessing needs and identifying opportunities that strengthen and grow our business.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:

    • Bachelor's degree or 4+ equivalent years of job-related experience
    • 7 years of communications, public relations, and/or journalism experience
    • Extensive experience writing and editing a wide variety of organizational communications across large audiences
    • Mastery level experience with seeking out news and information through many sources, and knowing how to craft a compelling story that will connect with a desired audience
    • Highly experienced in maintaining exceptional communication and working relationship with their leader, anticipating their needs, proactively addressing them, providing them feedback, and regularly updating them on work in a way fitting for their style and expectations
    • Has experience using their formal and informal network to inform leader of new information that may impact work
    • Mastery of a variety of computer programs and technologies that support effective communications teams, and is capable for guiding and supporting others development in these areas
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Highly skilled at delivering messages in a clear, compelling, and concise manner
    • Actively listens, checks for understanding, asks great questions, and proactively seeks out multiple perspectives to inform their approach
    • Highly skilled at adjusting communication content, style, and approach to meet the needs of diverse partners and senior leaders
    • Mastery level of written communication skills, with ability to coach and mentor consultants and partners on their written communication skills
    • Proven ability to use data and insights to develop strategies and tactics that lead to positive outcomes
    • Able to proactively develop relationships with a wide variety of people
    • Highly skilled at building trusted partnerships with business leaders, understanding their goals and challenges, and serving as a strategic advisor on communications and organizational considerations
    • Shows evidence of engaging input from others regularly and listening with empathy and understanding
    • Highly skilled at picking up on the need to change personal, interpersonal, and leadership behavior quickly, and adapts style or approach to meet those needs
    • Well-organized, able to handle a variety of complex projects, define and negotiate priorities and thrive under deadline pressure
    • Demonstrates results-driven work with strong outcomes, including measurement, analysis and evolution work
    • Takes responsibility for decisions, actions and failures and coaches peers on how to do the same
    • Highly effective in actively seeking input from key sources to make timely and well-informed decisions
    • Skillfully separates opinions from facts
    • Role models personal commitment and guides team action to continuously improve

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Leadership experience (in similar role without people leadership)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. (20%) - Builds strategic recommendations for area of focus and sets plan and work priorities for cross-functional teams.
  2. (20%) – Leads from within by creating connections internally and externally, building strong, long-lasting partnerships with partners.
  3. (10%) – Regular consultation with executives, leaders, and business partners.
  4. (10%) – Reviews and approves work of others, provides mentorship, broad leadership and guidance to colleagues.
  5. (10%) – Uses available data and insights to plan, optimize and innovate. Assesses insights and data, understands business opportunities, and clearly communicates vision and plan to team.
  6. (10%) – Leads cross-functional team to deliver on strategy and ensures team understands their work and their roles related to overall outcomes.
  7. (10%) – Owns areas of execution oversight ensuring execution is delivered on strategy. Presents, communicates, and persuades to build alignment and partnership to reach desired goals.
  8. (10%) – Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
