Job Description

Leidos currently has a contingent opening for a Communications Planner to work between our Reston, VA office and the customer site in Falls Church, VA. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the Defense Health Agency mission. In this mission we support DHA Headquarters communications planning efforts by helping develop, coordinate, execute, and assess enterprise communications plans and campaigns that inform internal and external audiences, support senior leader priorities, and strengthen mission delivery across the organization. This role contributes to high-visibility communications initiatives involving headquarters-level activities, workforce communications, crisis communications, special observances, and conference planning. The successful candidate will help ensure messages, materials, and communications products are planned and delivered in a timely, coordinated, and measurable manner in support of DHA priorities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the research, planning, coordination, execution, and assessment of communications plans and campaigns for DHA Headquarters enterprise activities.
  • Assist with development of communications planning products, including communications plans, campaign support materials, tactical recommendations, and implementation timelines.
  • Attend meetings with DHA leaders, program managers, and subject matter experts to identify communications opportunities, gather requirements, and support follow-on actions in coordination with the Government communications lead.
  • Coordinate requests for communications support and help track portfolio actions, emerging issues, and upcoming requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain communications planning materials using Government-approved processes and procedures.
  • Help develop and coordinate written communications products such as talking points, questions and answers, information papers, executive summaries, public affairs guidance, news articles, news releases, website content, customer messaging, email content, and initial social media messaging.
  • Support synchronization of multi-platform and multi-channel communications activities, including coordination across media, social media, web, graphics, video, outreach, and internal communications efforts.
  • Coordinate with other members of the communications team to maintain awareness of upcoming initiatives, share account information, and support integrated delivery of communications efforts.
  • Support development, maintenance, review, and updating of campaign and communications planning standard operating procedures.
  • Assist with collection, compilation, and reporting of communications metrics to help evaluate effectiveness and impact of campaigns and plans.
  • Help organize communications products and develop toolkits that enable DHA subordinate organizations and stakeholders to share enterprise messaging locally.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Public Affairs, Journalism, English, Marketing, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in communications planning, public affairs, public relations, strategic communications, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting development or execution of communications plans, campaigns, or outreach initiatives.
  • Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with experience drafting professional communications products for internal and/or external audiences.
  • Experience coordinating with multiple stakeholders, including leadership, program staff, and subject matter experts.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, track actions, and support fast-paced communications requirements.
  • Experience using established processes and procedures to develop communications deliverables and maintain quality and consistency.
  • Familiarity with communications performance measurement, metrics collection, or assessment practices.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team environment.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain any required security or site access requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior military or civilian service is preferable.
  • Experience supporting Federal health, military, or defense-related communications programs.
  • Familiarity with crisis communications, internal communications, executive communications, or campaign planning.
  • Experience supporting communications products for senior leaders.
  • Knowledge of DHA, DoD, or other Federal communications environments.
