QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, development studies, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in communications, reporting, or a related role, preferably within the development or NGO sector.
  • Proven experience in drafting high-quality reports and communication materials in English.
  • Exceptional command of written and spoken English (mandatory). The Arabic Language is an asset
  • Strong report-writing and editing skills, with attention to detail and structure.
  • Ability to translate complex programme information into accessible and engaging content.
  • Experience in writing for digital platforms (social media, web content).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • High level of organization, time management, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Sensitivity to cultural contexts and ethical storytelling practices.
  • Photography and videography skills desired.


Working Environment
The Communications Officer will be based in Aswan and will work closely with programme teams across different thematic areas. The role involves regular interaction with field teams and may require occasional field visits to capture programme activities and stories.

BACKGROUND

Om Habibeh Mohamed Shah Aga Khan Foundation (OHF) is an Egyptian non-profit foundation serving the people of Aswan for over 35 years. The foundation is an affiliate of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), which supports over 1,000 initiatives in over 30 countries around the world.

The Foundation was established by Om Habibeh Mohamed Shah Aga Khan, whose enduring legacy in Aswan reflects a deep and personal commitment to the well-being, dignity, and development of local communities. Her vision continues to guide OHF’s work, anchoring it in compassion, service, and long-term partnership with the people of Aswan.

Under the oversight of the Ministry of Social Solidarity, OHF’s core objective is to improve the quality of life of vulnerable and underserved communities through integrated, sustainable development approaches. The Foundation works across key sectors including education, health, economic inclusion, agriculture and food security, civil society strengthening, women’s empowerment, and early childhood development.

POSITION OBJECTIVES:
The Communications Officer will play a central role in shaping and delivering OHF’s internal and external communications. The role aims to elevate the Foundation’s visibility by translating programme achievements into compelling narratives, high-quality reports, and engaging content for diverse audiences.

The incumbent will work closely with programme/project teams to ensure accurate, timely, and impactful documentation of activities, while supporting the development of donor reports and communication materials that reflect OHF’s values, voice, and impact.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Content Development & Storytelling

  • Develop high-quality written content in English, including reports, success stories, case studies, and human-interest narratives.
  • Produce engaging content for digital platforms (social media, website, newsletters) that highlights OHF’s programmes and impact.
  • Ensure all communications reflect the dignity, voice, and lived experiences of the communities served.


2. Donor Reporting Support

  • Collaborate closely with programme teams to support the drafting and editing of donor reports (annual, semi-annual, and ad hoc).
  • Translate technical programme data into clear, concise, and compelling narratives aligned with donor requirements.
  • Ensure consistency, accuracy, and high editorial standards across all reports.


3. Programme Documentation & Visibility

  • Support project teams in documenting activities, outcomes, and lessons learned.
  • Capture and curate content (written, visual, and multimedia) that showcases programme impact.
  • Contribute to increasing OHF’s visibility through strategic dissemination of content across relevant channels.


4. Editorial & Quality Assurance

  • Review and edit internal and external documents to ensure clarity, coherence, and adherence to Aga Khan Foundation's and OHF’s communications guidelines and .
  • Maintain a consistent tone, style, and messaging across all communication outputs.


5. Coordination & Capacity Building

  • Work closely with programme staff to strengthen their communication and reporting skills.
  • Provide guidance on effective writing for different audiences, including donors and the public.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to gather relevant information and materials.
  • Work closely with the Aga Khan Foundation’s global communications team to ensure OHF’s communications are aligned with AKF’s.
