ChildFund Papua New Guinea is the representative office of ChildFund Australia, an international development organisation working to reduce poverty for children and young people in developing communities.
ChildFund PNG works in partnership with communities, government, civil society and other stakeholders to create sustainable change that enables vulnerable children and young people to realise their rights and reach their full potential.
ChildFund PNG implements program across education, child protection, health, nutrition, water and sanitation, resilience and other areas relevant to children and young people.

The Communications and Media Coordinator will help communicate ChildFund PNG's work, achievements and impact to a range of internal and external audiences. The position will strengthen ChildFund PNG's visibility and reputation through clear, accurate and responsible communications, ensuring that the voices and experiences of children, young people and communities are represented respectfully and safely.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Communications and Media Coordinator is responsible for coordinating ChildFund PNG's communications, media and visibility activities and supporting the organisation to communicate its programimpact, organisational priorities and contribution to children and communities.
The position will develop and coordinate communications content across appropriate platforms, support media engagement, document programstories and achievements, and provide communications support to programteams and management.
The role will work closely with the Country Director, Program, MEAL and other teams to ensure communications are aligned with ChildFund's strategy, branding, safeguarding requirements and donor commitments.
KEY DUTIES
Communications Strategy and Coordination
- Support the development and implementation of ChildFund PNG's communications and visibility priorities.
- Ensure communications are aligned with ChildFund PNG's strategy, organisational priorities and ChildFund Australia requirements.
- Develop communications plans for key program, campaigns, events and organisational priorities.
- Coordinate communications requests across the Country Office and programteams.
- Provide advice and support to staff on appropriate communications approaches and messaging.
- Ensure communications are clear, consistent, accurate and appropriate for the intended audience.
Content Development and Storytelling
- Develop high-quality content that communicates ChildFund PNG's programoutcomes, impact and organisational contribution.
- Produce stories, articles, profiles, case studies, newsletters, reports and other communications materials.
- Work with programteams to identify meaningful stories and evidence of change.
- Ensure stories reflect the voices and perspectives of children, young people, communities and partners appropriately and respectfully.
- Translate technical programinformation into accessible and engaging communications for different audiences.
- Support the development of communications materials for donor and stakeholder engagement.
Digital and Social Media
- Coordinate ChildFund PNG's digital and social media content in line with approved communications plans and organisational guidelines.
- Develop and curate appropriate content for ChildFund PNG's digital platforms.
- Maintain a consistent organisational voice and visual identity across communications channels.
- Monitor engagement and use digital analytics to improve communications approaches.
- Ensure social media content is appropriately reviewed and approved before publication.
- Support campaigns and digital initiatives that promote ChildFund PNG's program and advocacy priorities.
Media Engagement
- Develop and maintain constructive relationships with relevant media outlets and journalists.
- Coordinate media enquiries and support appropriate responses in consultation with the Country Director and relevant staff.
- Prepare media releases, talking points, key messages, briefing notes and other media materials.
- Support media interviews and opportunities for ChildFund PNG leadership and programrepresentatives.
- Monitor relevant media coverage and provide updates to management.
- Ensure media engagement follows ChildFund's communication, safeguarding and reputational risk requirements.
ProgramVisibility and Documentation
- Work closely with programteams to identify opportunities to communicate programachievements, outcomes and learning.
- Support programteams to develop appropriate visibility and communications plans.
- Document programactivities, achievements and impact through written stories, photography, video and other appropriate formats.
- Ensure donor visibility and communications requirements are incorporated into programcommunications.
- Support communications for programlaunches, events, visits and other significant organisational moments.
- Maintain an organised archive of approved photographs, videos, stories and other communications materials.
Internal Communications
- Support effective internal communication across ChildFund PNG.
- Develop staff communications, updates and other internal information materials as required.
- Support the Country Director and Senior Management Team with key organisational messages.
- Promote consistent understanding of organisational priorities and key developments.
- Contribute to staff engagement and organisational culture through appropriate communications.
Brand and Communications Quality
- Ensure ChildFund PNG communications comply with approved ChildFund branding and communications guidelines.
- Maintain consistency in ChildFund PNG's visual identity, tone and messaging.
- Review communications materials for accuracy, quality and appropriate language before publication.
- Ensure communications materials are accessible and appropriate for different audiences.
- Coordinate with ChildFund Australia communications colleagues where required.
Safeguarding and Ethical Communications
- Ensure all communications involving children and vulnerable people comply with ChildFund safeguarding requirements.
- Obtain appropriate consent before using photographs, stories, quotes or other personal information.
- Ensure communications do not expose children, families or communities to harm, stigma or unnecessary risk.
- Promote dignified, respectful and non-exploitative representation of children and communities.
- Immediately raise any communications-related safeguarding or reputational concerns through the appropriate channels.
Team and Capacity Support
- Provide communications guidance and practical support to programand operational teams.
- Build staff capacity to identify and communicate programoutcomes and impact.
- Encourage staff to use clear, accurate and outcome-focused communication.
- Develop simple communications tools and guidance for staff where required.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Media, Public Relations, Marketing, International Development, Social Sciences or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years' relevant experience in communications, media, journalism, public relations or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience developing communications content for an organisation, NGO or development organisation.
- Strong writing, editing and storytelling skills.
- Experience developing content for digital and social media platforms.
- Experience working with media and coordinating media engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex information clearly to different audiences.
- Experience producing or coordinating photography, video or other multimedia content.
- Strong understanding of communications and reputational risks.
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including communities and development partners.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working in an international NGO or development organisation. Experience in communications for child-focused or humanitarian/development organisations.
- Experience working with donor-funded program and donor visibility requirements.
- Experience with graphic design, photography, video production or basic multimedia editing.

Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding or sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment risks; understand and comply with ChildFund's safeguarding and PSEAH policies and procedures; and promote safe and respectful environments for children, young people, staff, partners and communities.
The Communications and Media Coordinator will ensure that all communications involving children, young people and communities follow appropriate consent, safeguarding, privacy and ethical storytelling requirements.
