POSITION SUMMARY

The Communications Manager develops, implements, and oversees Native American Health Center’s (NAHC) Communications and Media Program to strengthen organizational visibility, promote services, support membership and service growth, and advance NAHC’s mission. This position leads external and internal communications, marketing, media relations, branding, and public engagement efforts across social media, agency websites, newsletters, press and media communications, campaigns, print and digital materials, and other communications channels.

The Communications Manager establishes communications priorities, identifying opportunities to expand NAHC’s external reach and community presence, and directs resources toward areas of greatest organizational impact. This position also directly develops and produces communications content and materials while supervising and developing Communications staff.

The Native American Health Center is an accredited institution and adheres to the standards of excellence set forth by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and the Commission of Dental Accreditation (CODA).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PROGRAM LEADERSHIP & COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGY

  1. Align the vision, goals, and priorities of NAHC’s Communications and Media program with the agency mission, strategic direction, and commitment to the communities it serves.
  2. Plan, manage, and continuously strengthen NAHC’s Communications and Media Program across digital, print, video, design, web, social media, public relations, and other communication channels.
  3. Establish and manage communications priorities, projects, and workflows based on organizational priorities, audience impact, and opportunities to strengthen external visibility, engagement, membership and service utilization.
  4. Identify and implement new approaches, tools, technologies, communication methods, and creative opportunities that strengthen the quality, efficiency, reach, and impact of NAHC’s communications.
  5. Ensure internal and external communications align with organizational priorities, established messaging and brand standards, and direction from Executive Leadership.
  6. Supervise assigned communications staff, including establishing expectations and priorities, assigning work, monitoring performance, providing coaching and feedback, completing performance evaluations, and addressing performance or personnel matters in coordination with Human Resources.
  7. Foster a collaborative and accountable team environment and provide staff with opportunities to develop skills, expand capabilities, and assume increasing responsibility.
  8. Manage communications and media inventory, equipment, services and scheduling.

EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS, MARKETING & GROWTH

  1. Identify and pursue external communications, marketing, media, partnerships, and community engagement opportunities that expand NAHC’s reach, strengthen its public presence, and connect the agency with new audiences.
  2. Lead the development and implementation of integrated communications and marketing campaigns that promote NAHC’s programs and services, strengthen organizational visibility, support membership and service growth, engage community audiences, and advance fundraising or other organizational priorities.
  3. Cultivate and maintain relationships with media outlets, community organizations, partners, and other external stakeholders to identify opportunities for collaboration, public engagement, agency promotion and increased visibility.
  4. Serve as primary point of contact for press and media interactions, manage media inquiries, maintain media relationships, and identify opportunities for earned media coverage.
  5. Develop, write, review, and distribute press releases, media advisories, public statements, talking points, and other external communications.
  6. Integrate community voice, culturally responsive messaging, and storytelling into communications and promotional strategies in a manner that authentically represents the communities NAHC serves.

DIGITAL, BRAND & CONTENT PRODUCTION

  1. Lead the planning, development, and implementation of NAHC’s digital communications strategy, including social media, website content, email/newsletter communications, and emerging communications channels.
  2. Guide the development and application of NAHC branding, messaging, visual identity, and communication standards across internal and external communications.
  3. Develop and produce communications content and materials as needed, including written content, social media, graphics, print and digital materials, photography, video, website content, presentations, and other communications deliverables.
  4. Oversee the ongoing maintenance and administration of NAHC’s website and coordinate website-related projects with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
  5. Monitor and evaluate communications, digital, social media, campaign, and audience engagement metrics; prepare reports and use findings to recommend adjustments to communications strategies, priorities, and activities.

ORGANIZATIONAL & DEPARTMENTAL SUPPORT

  1. Partner with departments across NAHC to assess communications needs and provide communications, marketing, branding, outreach, and promotional support aligned with established organizational and departmental priorities.
  2. Provide communications and media leadership and support for agency events, outreach and community engagement activities, fundraising initiatives, and other special projects as assigned.
  3. Develop and provide communications-related trainings and guidance to staff, including branding, messaging, media practices and use of relevant communications tools and technology.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Must maintain compliance with ergonomic safety standards; be mindful of posture and regularly practice ergonomic stretches.
  2. Safety: Responsible for ensuring that all duties, responsibilities and operations are performed with the utmost regard for the safety and health of all personnel involved, including themselves.
  3. Actively participate in staff meetings, workshops, and trainings, and coordinate activities with collaborating agencies as assigned.
  4. Actively participate in internal quality improvement teams and work with members proactively to drive quality improvement initiatives in accordance with agency’s mission and strategic goals, federal and state laws and regulations, and accreditation standards, when assigned.
  5. Work effectively under pressure, meet multiple and often competing deadlines, and demonstrate cooperative leadership behavior with supervisors, colleagues, clients, outside agencies, and the community.
  6. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
  2. Minimum four (4) years of progressively responsible in communications, marketing, public relations, media production, outreach, or a related field.
  3. Minimum two (2) years of direct supervisory or management experience, including responsibilities for assigning and prioritizing work, providing performance feedback and coaching, completing performance evaluations, supporting staff development, and addressing employee performance or personnel matters.
  4. Demonstrated experience developing and implementing communications, marketing, media, or public relations strategies campaigns across multiple communications channels.
  5. Demonstrated experience managing multiple communications projects, competing priorities, deadlines, and organizational stakeholders.
  6. Experience with external communications, community engagements, or development of relationships with media and external partners.
  7. Demonstrated hands-on experience developing communications and creative content across digital and traditional channels, including social media, websites, print materials, graphics, photography, video, or other multimedia platforms.
  8. Experience using communications metrics, analytics, and performance data to evaluate effectiveness and inform communications strategies and priorities.
  9. Experience developing and maintaining organizational branding, messaging, and communication standards.
  10. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop clear, compelling communications for internal, external, community, and media audiences.
  11. Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgement, establish priorities, solve problems, and make decisions in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing demands.
  12. Proficiency with relevant communications and media platforms and tools, including social media platforms, content management systems, graphic design and multimedia production software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
