Communications Coordinator - College of Liberal Arts and Sciences-(26003381)

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ Marketing and Communications team is seeking a creative and strategic Communications Coordinator to help share the stories of the University of Iowa’s largest college with a wide range of audiences across multiple platforms.

In this role, you will work as part of the CLAS Marketing and Communications team to help advance the mission, priorities, and reputation of the college and its programs.

You will create engaging content for digital platforms, contribute to social media and website updates, support marketing campaigns, and collaborate with colleagues across the college to highlight research, teaching, student success, and community engagement

This position not eligible for University sponsorship for employment authorization.

This position is primarily on campus, with the opportunity to transition to a hybrid work schedule (up two to remote days per week) after 3 to 6 months, based on demonstrated performance and successful onboarding.

This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, interview for, write, edit, and publish news stories, feature articles, faculty and staff profiles, and announcements.
  • Draft and schedule content for social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X.
  • Monitor and track communication channel metrics (e.g. web, email, social media) as needed.
  • Partner with faculty, staff, students, and CLAS leadership to identify stories and communication opportunities.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, English, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications

  • At least one year of demonstrated professional experience writing and editing a variety of marketing and communications content types and formats for a range of audiences, purposes, and channels including profiles, features, news, and social media.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and collaborative skills.
  • Demonstrated experience using generative AI tools like CoPilot, ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude to create or refine content.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in higher education, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations.
  • Working knowledge of AP Style.
  • Experience with website content management systems such as WordPress, Drupal, or SiteNow.
  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms and analytics tools.
  • Experience translating complex academic or research topics into engaging stories for general audiences.
