Reporting to the Manager, Marketing & Sales and working strategically with all Y Winnipeg departments, the Communications Coordinator is a passionate ambassador for our community. A gifted storyteller who’s highly organized and deeply relational, you have a track record of engaging hearts and minds – both in-person and through digital and traditional media.
In this role, you'll actively engage our community and identify opportunities to shine a spotlight on the people, projects, and events that shape us. At the end of the day, you know how to build connections that develop into meaningful action through engagement, donations, partnerships, and support.
The right candidate for this role has some experience and is comfortable taking the initiative to identify opportunities and build relationships on both the corporate and community level, including through member and donor communications, media relations, events support, and other initiatives.

HOW you'll create Moments that Matter:
Storytelling & Brand Stewardship
  • Proactively connects with internal and external stakeholders to identify and capture impact stories.
  • Writes, edits and publishes clear, persuasive, and brand-aligned communications copy that is designed to drive engagement and action.
  • Schedules and conducts interviews with members, staff, and community partners.
  • Publishes compelling content for the website, newsletters, social media, public media, donor reports, and more, following best practices according to each platform.
  • Develops content for speeches and presentations, statements and announcements, based on approved messaging.
  • Monitors data and market trends to identify opportunities for new or enhanced messages to support the organization’s reputation and advance our mission.
  • Proofreads and edits others’ work as needed to ensure a consistent, high standard of quality.
Communications Coordination
  • Manages a comprehensive annual communications calendar.
  • Together with other Marketing and Member Experience team members, manages our email lists to ensure optimal engagement practices.
  • Collaborates with other teams to ensure content is aligned with and supports other in-market messages and campaigns.
  • Measures impact by identifying trackable metrics and proactively using analytics to gauge results.
Media Relations
  • Builds relationships with media contacts and influencers and maintains targeted media lists.
  • Coordinates inbound media inquiries and routes them to appropriate internal contacts.
  • Works with leadership to craft media releases; dispatches media content and manages follow-up inquiries by coordinating interviews and tracking story uptake.
Event Publicity & Support
  • Proactively identifies right-fit community events for Y Winnipeg to attend and/or support.
  • Supports event planning, including identifying and procuring display materials, liaising with event officials, and hands-on support where needed.
  • Plans and executes communications for key events, including organizational milestones, days/weeks of observance, fundraising, team recognition, recruitment, and more.
What else do you need?
  • Degree or diploma in communications, public relations, marketing or related field (equivalent work experience will also be considered)
  • 2-3 years’ experience working in communications (non-profit sector considered an asset)
  • Demonstrated success in utilizing best practices communication campaigns, including direct mail, email, web, social media, etc.
  • Willingness and ability to proactively identify stories and build rapport with brand ambassadors and audiences.
  • Exceptional organization, judgement and time management skills, including the ability to work within condensed timeframes and to effectively prioritize multiple competing timelines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to research, provide options for consideration and evaluate the results.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly around grammar and factchecking.
  • Ability to network, build effective relationships and work constructively across teams both internally and externally.
