Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Communications Assistant supports the Advocacy, communication, campaign and media (ACCM) function in gathering data and developing content for communications, advocacy and campaigns products, including donor communications and requirements. S/he will play a key role in ensuring the ACCM department is up to date with the contextual and programmatic developments.

The role is based in Beirut with regular field visits across Lebanon (40% in the field) to collect content, conduct interviews, and engage with field teams and communities.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Communications, Social Media, and Campaigns Coordinator

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

CONTENT:

  • Interviews children, youth and adults in the field for different purposes, including donor communications, campaigns, moments, or ad hoc requests;
  • Transcripts and translates interviews and collects relevant information to be used in blogs, videos, articles, documentaries and other communication products;
  • Works with field colleagues and communications focal points from different partners regularly to identify human-interest stories that give voice to children and vulnerable groups and highlight Save the Children’s work to provide support.
  • Contributes with content (stories, research) to regular campaigns and advocacy work as per timeline or as requested.

RESEARCH:

  • Prepare tables and figures related to information needed using Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other software;
  • Performs literature searches, reviews content, and prepares written summaries.

INFORMATION MANAGEMENT:

  • Maintains strong relationship with communications departments across partner NGOs and stakeholder offices to ensure information-sharing;
  • Collects inputs for the Monthly Sitrep and helps colleagues provide the best input to inform Member offices and donors;
  • Fact-checks and provides other assistance to senior staff in the preparation of background papers, meeting presentations or other documents.
  • Extracts content for social media and other purposes using existing documents and reports.
  • Ensures information management systems are up to date, including Content Hub.

OTHER:

  • Performs other duties as assigned, demonstrating commitment to team and personal success.
  • Supports in Communications and Documentation training for focal points.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Media, Journalism, research or any related field
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Spoken and written Arabic

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Strong skills turning information and data into a story that can be told
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in a similar role
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism are crucial
  • Familiarity with Microsoft softwares (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong verbal and communications skills
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Strong prioritisation skills and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and evolving environment
  • Desired: photography skills, writing skills
