About the role

Are you a dynamic, creative, and seasoned communications and marketing professional? We are expanding our ambitious Communications & Marketing team at Nottingham City Council and have up to four Communications and Marketing Officer roles available.

This is a great opportunity to join a personable, professional, and innovative team that sits at the heart of the Council, as we work to rebuild capacity and make a strategic impact across the organisation.

If you are confident, diplomatic, and have a passion for high-impact storytelling, we want to hear from you.

About You

As a Communications & Marketing Officer, you won’t just be a "cog in the machine." You will be a creative lead, responsible for developing and delivering insight-based campaigns that meet real business objectives.

While these roles work across all Council areas, two of our new recruits will initially take lead roles in our Resident Services department, designing and delivering engagement communication and campaigns, as well as designing infographics for Ward Councillors for performance oversight, and creating internal newsletters and communications for employees to highlight the work taking place in Resident Services.

One officer will support our Waste and Cleansing Services, you will work closely alongside Engagement and Behaviour Change Officersto develop targeted communications to engage residents and drive service improvements including graphic design work using Canva to help deliver city-wide recycling campaigns.

One officer will support our Greenspace Team - are you passionate about nature, community, and creating inspiring outdoor spaces? At Nottingham City Council, we work towards developing vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive green spaces that everyone in our city can enjoy.

Our Greenspace Team is at the heart of this transformation - designing and maintaining parks, nature reserves, and outdoor facilities that boost wellbeing, support biodiversity, and bring people together.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering creative promotional campaigns with a focus on digital advertising, web optimisation, and event marketing.
  • Working on our busy media desk, managing local and national press enquiries, and writing high-quality news articles and press releases.
  • Providing expert counsel to senior leaders, politicians, and external partners to protect and enhance the Council’s reputation.

Key skills and experience:

  • Detailed knowledge of commercial communication and marketing techniques, online and offline, taking a client brief and reflecting it back
  • Experience of the tactical execution of effective and persuasive projects and campaigns and working in partnership with internal and external agencies and large complex organisations
  • Project management and organisational skills and experience of working under pressure, prioritising projects/work to meet tight deadlines, multi-tasking as appropriate.
  • Excellent communicator (written and verbal), strong negotiator who thinks through the tone, method, channel and content that best suits the situation and audience, switching communication and influence style where needed.
