
Communications and Events Specialist (2 positions)
Join us in the Office of Student Academic Success for an exciting opportunity to grow with our campus graduate studies unit. You will work directly with the Assistant Director of Graduate Studieson various projects and events throughout the academic year. The Communications and Events Specialist will be responsible for managing social media accounts and creating regular content.The ideal person will be highly motivated, possess a level of creativity, and have the ability to work independently.
Position start: June 2026Position
end: September 2026, with the possibility of extension
Hours: 10 hours per week with a flexible time frame (hours may increase during weeks where events are hosted)
Setting: hybrid
Pay: $21.30 per hour
The Communications and Event Specialist will:
Work both independently and collaboratively with the Assistant Director of Graduate Studies and fellow Communications and Events Specialist
Utilize creativity and innovative thinking to develop strategies for engaging UWB graduate students, including but not limited to:
Event Coordination: advanced planning, logistics coordination, and other tasks assigned for day of event (setup, cleanup, etc)
Social Media Content Creation: lead content creation for the @uwbgradstudies Instagram account, utilizing a combination of graphic design, photography, and videography skills
Marketing: create and maintain marketing campaigns that amplify graduate focused events, programs, resources, and classes across print and digital platforms
Community Outreach: outreach to and partner with graduate level students, faculty, and staff to support content development and event execution
Customer Service interacting with faculty, student, and staff during events such as when stationed at check-in areas, etc
Be familiar with and abide by UW marketing guidelines
Be familiar with and abide by UW safety guidelines for in-person events
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
A career interest in marketing, advertising, journalism, graphic design, public relations, higher education/student affairs or a related field
General awareness of current social media/popular culture trends
An excitement and willingness to learn new skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive
Interest in community building/engagement
Familiar with the basic functions of Instagram
Strong organization and communication skills
Ability to work independently and part of a team
Must be a current or incoming student UW Bothell student who is able to commit to this position through September 2026 NOTE: you may not hold this position after graduation
Preferred Qualifications
Current graduate student or student currently majoring in communications, marketing, or related field
Proficiency with Canva, Instagram, and other marketing tools
Experience developing impactful social media content and events
Experience using virtual platforms to build and maintain community
Comfort and proficiency with email communication
