Auckland Live, part of Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, is one of Aotearoa New Zealand's leading performing arts organisations, presenting world-class theatre, music, dance and entertainment while helping shape the future of Auckland's Aotea Arts Quarter and city centre.

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Communications Advisor to help tell the stories behind some of Auckland's most exciting arts, cultural and public space initiatives.

Working across Auckland Live, performing arts, public realm and city centre activity, you'll provide strategic communications advice, build positive media relationships and deliver communications that engage audiences, stakeholders and the media.

No two days are the same. One day you could be launching a major theatre production, the next supporting a city centre activation, preparing executive messaging or managing reactive media enquiries.

  • Develop and deliver communications and media activity across a diverse portfolio.
  • Provide trusted communications advice to project teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Create high-quality content including media releases, key messages, speeches, briefing papers and stakeholder communications.
  • Build positive relationships with media and external publicists to maximise coverage.
  • Identify communications opportunities, manage reputational risks and support successful project delivery.

You're an experienced communications professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and knows how to balance tactical thinking with hands-on delivery.

You're a confident writer with excellent news judgement, strong stakeholder management skills and a genuine passion for storytelling. You enjoy working collaboratively, can confidently manage competing priorities and remain calm under pressure. Most importantly, you're excited by the opportunity to help bring Auckland's arts, culture and city centre experiences to life.

You'll bring

  • Around five years' communications, media or public relations experience in a complex organisation, agency or public sector environment.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience developing communications plans and delivering integrated communications activity.
  • Strong media relations and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • The ability to translate complex information into engaging, plain English communications.
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to continuous improvement.

Salary: $91,020 - $107,090 pro rata, depending on experience
