At our New Roads Hubs we have ambitious plans to shape how we work with families, placing practitioners and relationship-based practice at the heart of what we do. Through Vital Signs, our vision for Children in Norfolk, we work with whole family networks and across the whole system to support families to build on their strengths and to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Bringing together a team of specialists through a central hub, our model is designed to provide intensive short-term interventions to prevent entry into care, escalation to long term care, prevent placement breakdown or facilitate placement step downs. Support takes place in the hub as well as in the community countywide supporting young people as part of our Outreach service.

We are looking for maternity cover for our Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (SLT), to work with vulnerable young people who have speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) aged between 10-17 years of age. This role involves working with young people within a residential children’s home and young people in the community (for example visiting them at home, school or where they feel most comfortable).

Embedded within our New Roads service, you will work alongside a specialist team including a mental health professional, Social Care professionals and the wider network.

You will deliver training within residential children’s homes, and with wider children’s services and partner agencies to raise awareness of the types of communication difficulties faced by young people and strategies to facilitate their communication. You will maximise the opportunity to build trusting relationships with young people, be flexible and accessible for young people to reach out in settings they are comfortable in.

As a qualified speech and language therapist with a relevant degree, you will be HCPC registered and a member of RCSLT with evidence of successful completion or on-going specialist short course/ training up to master’s degree level or equivalent and membership of a relevant Clinical Excellence network (local or national). With experience at specialist level, you will have in depth knowledge of a range of appropriate SLT assessments and interventions (relevant to the client group) and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits.

This is a great opportunity to be part of our service, connecting and engaging with young people to support them to achieve the best possible outcomes in life.

Before you apply, we recommend reading the full and Person Specification to help you demonstrate you meet the criteria.

To apply, you must download a Norfolk County Council application form >> Here << and attach it to your online application.
