Communication and Events Manager (part-time, 17.5 hours/week)

The Communications and Events Manager owns event communications, social media direction, production calendars, workbacks, approvals, and publish-ready checks for social and event-related content. This role keeps projects moving from intake to completion, makes sure the right people are involved, and confirms that event and social media deliverables are accurate, approved, posted or submitted correctly, and documented when finished.

What you’ll do in this position:

Event Planning and Communications

  • Serve as the operational lead for major College of Nursing events, including student, college, alumni, donor, and partner-facing events.
  • Coordinate event logistics, including venues, catering, audiovisual needs, registration, staffing, signage, and vendor support.
  • Develop event communications, including websites, emails, graphics, digital signage, RSVP forms, and social media promotions.
  • Coordinate printed materials, promotional items, and event supplies.
  • Manage event timelines, oversee day-of operations, and evaluate event outcomes.

Social Media Management

  • Manage the college's social media strategy and content calendar.
  • Supervise student employees responsible for creating and publishing social media content.
  • Create and review engaging content that promotes college initiatives, events, and achievements.
  • Monitor social media channels, respond appropriately, and escalate sensitive issues when needed.
  • Track performance metrics and recommend improvements.

Project Coordination and Communications Support

  • Coordinate intake and prioritization of event and communications requests.
  • Maintain project schedules, production calendars, and task tracking systems.
  • Coordinate approvals and ensure communications and marketing materials are accurate, complete, and ready for publication.
  • Organize and maintain project files and digital assets.

Student Employee Supervision

  • Supervise, train, and mentor student employees supporting events, social media, photography, videography, design, and related communications work.
  • Assign projects, provide coaching and performance feedback, and oversee scheduling and time approval.
  • Develop and improve processes that support efficient event planning, communications, and project management.

What qualifies you for this role:

Required:

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, event management, or related field, or equivalent experience, and 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong project and event management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Good judgment for social media timing, tone, audience fit, and messaging consistency.
  • Strong follow-through and ability to keep work moving from intake to final closeout.
  • Clear communication with students, campus partners, internal stakeholders, IT, and leadership.
  • Strong quality control for multi-channel deliverables, including checklists, timelines, links, QR codes, approvals, and version control.
  • Comfort using Microsoft 365 tools, especially Teams, Planner/Tasks, and Excel.

Preferred:

  • Experience coordinating events and day-of logistics; experience supervising students; familiarity with social media strategy, email platforms, basic analytics, and reporting.

Pay Grade: 49

Typical Starting Pay: $22.50 to $29.25 an hour
