The Opportunity

At Hitachi Energy HVDC, we enable a sustainable energy future by delivering large‑scale HVDC solutions that integrate renewable energy, strengthen power grids, and support reliable electricity transmission worldwide.

We are now looking for an experienced HVDC Commissioning and start up Engineer to strengthen our commissioning organization. In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring that commissioning activities across global HVDC projects are executed safely, efficiently, and according to plan—by securing the right test equipment, tools, documentation, and processes at the right time.

You will work closely with commissioning managers, project teams, logistics, suppliers, and external partners, supporting commissioning activities from pre‑commissioning through start‑up and final handover. The role combines technical coordination, planning, quality, and cost awareness, and offers the opportunity to influence commissioning ways of working across HVDC projects globally.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Plan, prepare, and coordinate pre‑commissioning tools, commissioning, and start‑up activities to support successful project completion.
  • Ensure availability of test equipment and tools globally by planning stock levels, allocations, and project‑specific equipment sets.
  • Support commissioning managers in creating project‑specific test equipment and instrumentation lists aligned with scope, timelines, and site needs.
  • Coordinate packing, shipping, rental, and return of test equipment and tools in close collaboration with logistics and third‑party providers.
  • Ensure that all test equipment and tools are properly organized, calibrated, documented, and compliant for the full commissioning period.
  • Develop and maintain commissioning documentation, including test procedures, commissioning manuals, reports, and acceptance documentation.
  • Support cost estimation for tenders, follow up budgets related to test equipment and tools, and manage quotations, purchase requests, and invoices.
  • Administrate and keep track of calibrations and service of instruments.

Your background

  • Several years of experience in commissioning, start‑up, or system testing within HVDC, high‑voltage systems, or other complex industrial or energy projects.
  • Strong understanding of commissioning workflows, verification activities, and acceptance processes in large technical projects.
  • Experience coordinating test equipment, tools, logistics, and third‑party suppliers in a global project environment.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, while supporting and coordinating others in demanding project phases.
  • A structured and quality‑focused working style, with attention to safety, compliance, documentation, and traceability.
  • Experience working with budgets, cost follow‑up, and supplier coordination related to technical equipment or services.
  • Clear and confident communication skills in English, with the ability to collaborate across functions, cultures, and locations.

What we offer

  • Flexible working time
  • Health care and wellness allowance
  • Fantastic career possibilities within Hitachi Energy both within Sweden and globally
