Job Description

MEG is hiring a Commissioning Project Authority in Columbus, OH, to perform the full range of Commissioning (Cx) responsibilities on moderate size and complexity building projects, or in a supporting role to senior staff on larger, more complex building projects. You’ll develop Cx plans and specifications, complete web-based project management and documentation (Cx Alloy), perform Cx design reviews, lead construction meetings, complete site observations, and support functional testing, reporting, and post-occupancy follow-up activities.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Manage and/or support multiple commissioning projects, including client interface, team coordination, schedule, and budget management
  • Support construction and renovation commissioning projects in collaboration with senior Cx staff
  • Perform commissioning reviews of construction documents and equipment submittals
  • Develop commissioning plans, reports, pre-functional checklists, and functional performance test procedures
  • Assist with and/or self-perform functional testing of building MEP systems with contractors/owners
  • Track and support issue management through project closeout
  • Perform technical analysis of building operation (controls, sequences, etc.)
  • Perform jobsite field observations; write detailed field reports; and lead commissioning meetings
  • Contribute to improving Cx processes and best practices
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions aligned to project goals
  • Mentor and develop less-experienced employees in a team-based atmosphere

Required Qualifications and Skills • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
• 5 years of experience minimum required, 6 preferred, in Commissioning or in the Mechanical Electrical Plumbing (MEP) consulting industry, or equivalent
• Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred
OR
• Recognized Building Commissioning Certification preferred (or ability and desire to obtain one)
• 9 years of experience minimum required, 10 preferred, in Commissioning or in the Mechanical Electrical Plumbing (MEP) design consulting industry, or equivalent
• Strong oral and written skills and a proven ability to interact professionally with a wide a range of clients
• Solid understanding of HVAC and electrical system designs and operations
• Working knowledge of building automation and lighting control systems
• Working knowledge of Cx Industry Standards (ASHRAE, ACG, BCxA) and code requirements
• Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (CEC Title 24, ASHRAE, IECC, IMC, NEC, etc.)
• Demonstrated ability to read and understand construction documents (mechanical, controls, plumbing, and electrical drawings, specifications, etc. )
• Proficient understanding of electrical and fire/life safety systems
• Knowledge of construction industry safety practices and procedures
• Troubleshooting of field devices and control hardware and software
• Capable of self-performing functional testing of building MEP systems
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Skilled with PDF editors (Bluebeam, Adobe), plus additional online project management software
• Ability to travel up to 30% (travel will depend on project needs and may vary widely)

Commissioning Team Highlights

  • Provide Commissioning (Cx) and Retro-Commissioning (Retro-Cx) services to verify building systems are designed, installed, and functioning according to the owner’s requirements and industry standards
  • Support new construction from design phase through occupancy by developing commissioning plans and performing equipment inspections and functional testing (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety systems, etc.)
  • For existing buildings, perform retro-commissioning investigations and testing to identify operational improvements or corrective actions that restore or enhance performance
  • Help clients avoid energy waste, reduce maintenance headaches, and extend equipment life through system integration and calibration

Locations available: Columbus, OH

State of Ohio Salary Range: $90,000 – $115,000
Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
