Position Description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a DC Systems Commissioning Manager to work as part of the Systems & Lifecycle Management team reporting to the Head of System Commissioning. The DC Systems Commissioning Manager shall be responsible for all commissioning activities from assistance with factory acceptance testing to the completion of Level 5 Integrated systems testing.

The role will involve a mixture of both on site ‘hands on’ work in addition to essential office activities, ensuring all commissioning activities are planned to succussed with a clean hand over inline with our customers expectations and requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with the internal warranty team to ensure all previous findings and lessons learned have been captured in latest product releases
  • Input into the design of commissioning scripts and programmes, both internally and with the client, to agree appropriate levels of testing, witnessing and documentation are agreed
  • Act as internal gatekeeper during FAT tests, ensuring that no known fault with performance or specification is left unaddressed. Identify problems or scope gaps and see them through to resolution.
  • Attend client facing and internal project planning meetings to plan for the commissioning phase of the project
  • Take responsibility for delivering commissioning on site from both a programme and budget perspective
  • Work in collaboration with the Airedale project management team to commissioning activities are provided inline with customer expectations
  • Report on progress for the purposes of managing the clients programme and for our commercial invoicing
  • Take responsibility for personnel in the team cell assigned to the specific project
  • Liaise with the back office team to coordinate the attendance of all members of your commissioning cell
  • Assign duties for all team members and track progress in line with the project requirements
  • Ensure adequate supervision of site teams both when you are in attendance and when you are not
  • Perform “hand on” commissioning as required, managing your attendance for when it is most valuable
  • Coordinate with internal teams to agree best labor utilisation (use of wider team where appropriate)
  • Liaise with other Airedale teams to arrange required deliveries, warranty works, software modifications etc
  • Liaise with the client regarding any changes required to the test schedule or programme, escalating issues when needed to ensure we can meet the requirements
  • Attend site “White Board” meetings, reporting on progress and ensuring site efforts are aligned with customer requirements
  • Inspect and sign off of all pre-comms site works (L2 works by other Airedale teams, third parties or customer teams)
  • Perform Client training when required (in the form of both hands on and classroom type sessions)
  • Attend IST for your project to ensure successful completion and handover to the client
  • Capture any discovered quality issues, implementing resolutions and quantifying effort required in DMAICs/8D’s
  • Perform technical review of all commissioning / job sheets produced by your team ensuring the work has been performed to the required standards.
  • Scope out and arrange remedial works required, including labour, materials, tools, equipment and H&S
  • Provide RAMS, or ensure they are in place from others, for work to be delivered as required to support the coordination team
  • Identify the need for, raise, and track DMAICs/8D’s where appropriate
  • To deputise for the other team members, whether more senior or junior, to support delivery.
  • Performing commissioning works for other Commissioning Managers under their management when required.
  • Providing training to members of your team, other colleagues and peers as required to ensure knowledge is shared across the team, the department and the wider business
  • Be the advocate of the customer, driving delivery to meet and exceed their expectations
  • Find solutions to challenges, liaising across the business (and externally where appropriate) to “make a plan” when it appears no options exist
  • To assist with the recording and monitoring of department Key Performance Indicators.
  • To contribute to the process of review and continual improvement to streamline process and enhance service delivery.

Required Education & Qualifications

Qualifications

  • HVAC apprenticeship with C&G Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Level 2/ Level 3 or equivalent
  • UK F-Gas Certification
  • CSCS exam passed and card obtained
  • SSSTS Site Supervision

Essential

  • Extensive experience of performing Commissioning on Data Centre cooling infrastructure (Chillers, CRAHs, CRACs)
  • Good knowledge of the standard commissioning protocols used on Data Centre projects (FAT, L1,L2,L3,L4, IST etc)
  • Experience of diagnosing and resolving complex issues within HVAC equipment.
  • Experience of working practices within the Data Centre construction environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience of liaising with Clients, Consultants, Witnessing agents, 3rd Party Suppliers and Sub-contractors
  • Experience of liaising with field engineering resource
  • Experience of managing client expectations within an engineering / service delivery environment

Desirable

  • Experience of manging a team
  • HNC / HND / Degree in engineering related discipline
  • Experience of natural refrigerants
  • European F-Gas Certification
  • SMSTS Site Management
  • Professional qualification in Commissioning
