Job Description

The Commissioning Manager is responsible for planning, managing, and executing the commissioning (Cx) process for all Vertiv BU’s (powertrain, thermal, BMS, integrated solutions etc) on large scale datacentre projects. This includes oversight of all electrical, mechanical, software and control systems from pre-commissioning through integrated systems testing (IST) and final handover.

The role ensures that systems are installed, tested, and operate in accordance with design intent, client requirements, and industry standards, with a focus on reliability, safety, and uptime

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • COMMISSIONING
    • Develop and implement the overall commissioning strategy and execution plan.
    • Define commissioning scope, roles, responsibilities, and deliverables.
    • Review design documentation (schematics, specifications, sequences of operation) for commissioning readiness.
    • Establish Level 2–5 commissioning processes (main focus on L2-L4 then assisting customer agents as required for L5).

  • TRAVELLING – The role includes extensive travel (circa 75%) within EMEA to support Project Deployment. Working with internal and external partners for the management of the full commissioning cycle from implementation through to final closure.
  • ORGANISATION – Responsible for managing, training & empowering engineering & commissioning support functions ensuring teams are fully ready to take on the challenges Infront of them. Focus on implementing process & work with other members of the Projects team to help drive documentation & process standardisation
  • TECHNICAL – Maintain a high level of knowledge regarding current and future vertiv products/business units. Act as technical authority for diagnostic & fault finding. Feedback into the R&D process for continuous improvement. Be prepared to manage teams but also maintain training and technical expertise ready to partake in commissioning activities as required

  • COMMUNICATION – Ensures communication is clear and in line with the business culture. Actively seeks and develops opportunities for mutually beneficial relationships throughout the connected business departments, specifically Sales and Service. Particular focus should be applied to effective communication when dealing with external stakeholders.
  • MEETINGS – Attends and actively participates in meetings with the business and clients.
  • COMMERCIAL PERFORMANCE – Ensures projects are delivered in line with the opening margin and seek improvement possibilities during the project life cycle without compromising on quality.
  • HEALTH & SAFETY – Ensures all regulatory and business critical Health & Safety guidelines are followed at all times without compromise. Empowers engineering teams to ‘stop work’ as required and leads the resolutions to issues.
  • OTHER – The above duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and requirements of the role, and are not intended to be an exhaustive list. In order to achieve business objectives, other duties may be included at the discretion of the department manager. Occasional help outside EMEA to assist other Regions with product emerging from the EMEA development structure.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum HND Graduate, preferably with an M&E bias or suitable M&E engineering experience.

Minimum 5 year of managing M&E contracts preferably to Prince2 standard or equivalent.

Experience in managing M&E sub-contractors.

Working knowledge of commercial contract agreements.

Excellent written and verbal communications.

Excellent customer service skills and smart appearance are essential.

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Self-motivated and capable of operating with minimal supervision.

Multi-tasking ability with a flexible approach to work.

Valid full driving license.
