Job Description

GE’s Power Conversion and Storage business, part of GE Vernova, provides electrification systems that are critical to customers’ power and energy needs for their high-performance applications. We work with some of the world’s major energy, maritime and industrial organizations, helping to enable a transition to energy efficiency and decarbonization, including through our specialist motors, power electronics, drives and control technologies.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Commissioning Engineer to support the commissioning of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) within of Solar Storage Systems (SSS) department. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with electrical systems, energy storage technologies, and a solid understanding of commissioning protocols. You will be responsible for executing functional testing, system verification, troubleshooting, and ensuring projects meet performance and safety standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute commissioning procedures for utility-scale BESS systems, including battery management systems (BMS), inverters, switchgear, and SCADA interfaces.
  • Perform pre-functional and functional testing of all system components according to commissioning plans.
  • Conduct point-to-point checks, insulation resistance tests, performance tests, and system startup.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues related to electrical, control, and communication systems.
  • Document test results, prepare commissioning reports, and maintain logs of issues and resolutions.
  • Coordinate with lead commissioning engineer, project managers, subcontractors and help ensure project milestones are met.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities adhere to safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Support remote and onsite troubleshooting post-commissioning as required and perpetuate field engineering and/or product knowledge
  • Perform administrative functions; such as writing technical reports, ordering materials, securing quotations, preparing job status reports, reports to customers, time sheets, and expense sheets on a complete timely, and thorough basis
  • Be knowledgeable of and conduct work activities in compliance with, the Energy Safety (EHS) Manual and Safety (EHS) policies
  • Exercise good judgment in controlling costs and expenditures of Company funds
  • Protect the Company's capital investments and Intellectual Property by properly safeguarding and maintaining equipment for which responsible
  • Make contributions to the continued development and refinement of SSS Engineering Standards and Procedures (incl. Method Statements, Risk Assessments etc)
  • Develop knowledge of SSS Terms and Conditions and those of customers and subcontractors, and perform activities so as to minimize risk and assure compliance

Dotted-line responsibility for assigned field resources to include:

  • Provide performance feedback for field resources to service manager and employees as needed/required
  • Assist Service Manager with retention and attraction of qualified field resources (including candidate screening, hiring recommendations, etc.)

Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
  • Previous experience of commissioning or field service experience in utility-scale renewable energy or electrical installation projects.
  • Experience with BESS technologies, PCS (power conversion systems), and SCADA/PLC systems preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel frequently and work at remote project sites for extended durations.

  • Technical skills with hands-on experience with electrical systems, energy storage technologies, and a solid understanding of commissioning protocols.
