Your new role:
Report to Commissioning Manager, Open Access
The role is responsible for commissioning content into a portfolio of Open Access journals through special collection and article commissioning.
The role will develop a strong understanding of the research areas of their journal portfolio, identifying and working with academics to contribute to journals as Guest Editors and authors.
The role will work closely with Journal Managers and commissioning team colleagues to ensure their efforts are aligned with the department strategy and journal development plans.
This role will be primarily focusing on growing our journals in China.

As Commissioning Editor, Open Access, you will :
Article-level commissioning and special collection development for a portfolio of journals.
Ensure that all special collections meet the required ethical and scientific standards.
Maintain strong subject knowledge within allocated journal fields, including via national and international conference attendance when required.
Maintain a strong understanding of the OA research publishing landscape in China, contributing to strategies to make the most of opportunities in the region.
Guide the commissioning strategy of the allocated journals to ensure journal growth in line with departmental targets.
Oversee the special collection program for portfolio of journals, including acting as the main point of contact for Guest Editors.
Build and maintain positive relationships across SAGE and with external partners, including journal editors, editorial boards and partner institutions.
Travel to conferences and site visits to institutions as appropriate.
Could you be our new Commissioning Editor, Open Access?
Educated to at least BSc level in a scientific or engineering area (or other area with experience working with publications in these areas); a firm grasp of the principles of research, and of correct trial design and reporting standards.
Experience in journals publishing desirable, ideally in an Open Access environment.
Good commercial awareness.
High level communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent prioritisation skills and a high level of adaptability.
Proficient in standard IT packages, including Microsoft Office.
