ABOUT TRANSGRID
At Transgrid, we play a crucial role in delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable energy to millions of Australians. Operating over 13,000 km of high-voltage transmission lines and 128 substations across NSW and the ACT, we connect electricity generators to the distribution network powering homes, businesses, and communities. As Australia accelerates its energy transition, the work we do has never been more significant.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Commissioning is the phase of a project where everything either comes together or it does not. Years of engineering, procurement and construction work converge into a window where outages are constrained, coordination requirements are at their most complex and the margin for poor planning is at its lowest. The Commissioning Coordinator is the person who makes sure it comes together.
We are looking for a Commissioning Coordinator to join the Delivery group and take ownership of outage planning and commissioning execution across a portfolio of capital projects. Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, you will work closely with delivery partners, Transgrid's System Operations and Commissioning teams and a range of internal and external stakeholders to plan outages accurately, sequence commissioning activities correctly and ensure every project transitions to operations safely and on time.
This role involves real time on site across regional NSW and Sydney. Transgrid's current program spans substation upgrades, transmission line construction, synchronous condenser installations and data centre connections. The work is technically varied and operationally demanding. If you have a strong high-voltage background, solid outage management experience and the ability to coordinate across multiple parties without dropping the thread, this is a role worth pursuing.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
Your work will shift depending on where each project sits in the commissioning cycle. Here is a sense of what you will be managing across the role.
WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS
A substation that is not properly commissioned is not ready to operate. The commissioning phase is where the technical integrity of an entire project is confirmed and the asset is formally handed to the network. Every outage window that is planned badly, every pre-energisation checklist that is not complete, and every documentation gap that reaches handover creates a problem that is harder and more expensive to fix once the project is closed.
The Commissioning Coordinator's job is to make sure none of that happens. The work you do in this role has a direct bearing on when new infrastructure goes live, when customers get connected and whether the assets Transgrid hands to operations are fit for purpose on day one.
ABOUT YOU
You will have a solid technical background in high-voltage electrical systems, whether through a degree or an electrical trade pathway, and direct hands-on experience with outage management and commissioning on substation or transmission line projects.
