What You’ll Do

The City of Fredericksburg's Commissioner of the Revenue seeks motivated interns for a paid position. This role offers hands-on experience in municipal tax and revenue operations. Ideal candidates will have basic business accounting and finance skills and be enrolled in or recently graduated from a related program. It’s a great opportunity to gain practical skills in revenue assessment and public administration.

Work assignments may consist of:

Tax and Financial Management

  • Help reconcile tax filings
  • Enter data into our system of record

Research and Data Analysis

  • Conduct research and compile data for proactive problem-solving

Public Administration

  • Organize and maintain public records
  • Handle basic inquiries from City staff and the public

Communication and Correspondence

  • Draft memos and correspondence
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrolled, or recently graduated from, an undergraduate or graduate degree program in business administration, public administration, accounting, finance, economics, or marketing
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public and city staff and to exercise sound judgment in decision making
  • Knowledge and skilled in Microsoft Office software, required
  • Ability to learn and comply with State and City tax code
  • Demonstrated adherence to ethics and confidentiality and ability to use good judgement
