Job Description

The focus of this senior sales role is to support our client bydelivering exceptional sales levels through best-in-class planning, sales execution, compliance and reporting.

Success in this role will involve leading the development and delivery of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) solutions within the transport sector, with a core focus on Heavy Goods Vehicles and buses, while also promoting Renewable Gas (BioCNG) on behalf of Gas Networks Ireland.

The primary objective is to identify CNG and BioCNG prospects across the network, support customers in transitioning vehicles to Natural Gas, and guide them in developing strong internal business cases to migrate full commercial fleets.

The role will also place significant emphasis on driving load‑growth opportunities with haulage companies, bus operators, fleet managers, and local authorities, influencing and enabling the broader adoption of CNG across existing and potential users.

The Primary Responsibilities for This Role Are:

  • Develop and execute a targeted sales strategy to increase CNG fuel volumes across existing CNG stations.
  • Identify and convert sales opportunities within priority customer segments with particular attention to hauliers, local authorities, bus/coach operators, forecourt operators, vehicle & equipment suppliers and gas shippers.
  • Proactively identify new CNG station opportunities for CNG along the existing gas network, paying particular attention to forecourt operators.
  • Convert these opportunities into commercial agreements to deliver on the Renewable Gas in Transport (RGT) objectives and also develop other public and private locations for CNG refuelling.
  • Demonstrate strong technical selling, with CNG and vehicle technologies as a large focus to securing new opportunities and delivering bespoke solutions to customers.
  • Managing relationships with vehicle vendors/agents and CNG equipment vendors, developing a portfolio of business contacts within the sector.
  • Achieve key milestones and target levels of new installations and pilot programs
  • Communicate the benefits of CNG and Renewable Gas in transport to key stakeholders.
  • Take responsibility for client interactions for new CNG enquiries and projects.
  • Manage interactions with Renewable Gas and CNG project team members, clients and other external and internal stakeholders

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Closely manage the Sales Funnel to ensure that all opportunities are rated, and progress through the system from initial enquiry to order
  • Effective use of sales techniques to drive sales volumes such as direct sales, cold calling and telesales.
  • Efficiently and effectively use client IT systems (Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Maximo, and FAAR) to ensure detailed information is logged for each contact/opportunity.
  • Engage closely with Sales Support, Operations, Design and Renewable Gas teams.
  • Deliver feedback on customer and market intelligence into the organisation
  • Document every customer interaction with post-meeting letters and system updates to ensure all communications are traceable
  • Prepare detailed monthly reports on orders, initiatives and trends in this new sector

Qualifications:

  • Relevant experience in technical sales, or fleet/transport-related commercial roles.
  • Experience working with hauliers, bus operators, Local Authorities, or energy customers desirable
  • Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent would be an advantage
  • Project management qualification/experience desirable

Essential:

  • Commercially aware – able to spot opportunities and objectively judge them
  • Achieve target levels of new installations and CNG Fleet migration
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to influence key decision makers.
  • Highly developed presentation skills
  • Proven track record in dealing with energy projects from planning to completion
  • Proven ability to create and develop good working relationships and to influence effectively
  • Good understanding of business plans, commercial paybacks and ability in Business writing skills
  • Ability to set own high standards of performance and to deliver desired results
