Business Development Manager Commercial Trade

Location: Nasrec, Johannesburg

About the Role:

Africa Sun Oil is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Business Development Manager to lead growth in our bulk B2B trade division, focused on edible oils, fats, and industrial food ingredients. This is a strategic, non-retail role that targets high-volume clients in food manufacturing, agriculture, commodity trading, and other industrial sectors.

The ideal candidate will bring strong B2B sales expertise, a track record of developing high-value client accounts, and the ability to manage complex trade dynamics across pricing, logistics, and supply chains. This role is central to expanding our commercial footprint and building long-term partnerships with processors, wholesalers, distributors, and industrial clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive new business acquisition and revenue growth across B2B trade channels
  • Develop and execute sales strategies targeting food manufacturers, agricultural producers, commodity traders, and industrial end-users
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of bulk buyers for edible oils, fats, and related ingredients
  • Lead contract negotiation, pricing strategy, and margin management in alignment with market conditions
  • Build long-term relationships with key stakeholders including procurement managers, operations leads, and decision-makers
  • Collaborate with production, logistics, and supply chain teams to ensure fulfilment and delivery of large-volume orders
  • Track market trends, competitor activity, and customer insights to inform strategy
  • Prepare accurate forecasts, pipeline reports, and client activity updates using CRM tools
  • Represent the business in client meetings, site visits, and stakeholder engagements
  • Coordinate with finance and compliance teams on invoicing, contracts, and payment terms

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum 5-10 years experience in B2B business development, trade sales, or key account management
  • Proven experience selling edible oils, fats, industrial food ingredients, agri-inputs, or similar high-volume products
  • Strong understanding of bulk trading, pricing models, and commercial negotiation
  • Experience managing clients such as food processors, manufacturers, distributors, and wholesalers
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to manage margin and volume targets
  • Familiarity with logistics planning, delivery coordination, and order forecasting
  • Competent in CRM software and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Valid drivers license and willingness to travel regionally as needed
