Role Title: Commercial Strategy Lead

An exciting and dynamic leadership role within the Commercial organisation, spearheading the development, definition, and delivery of brand commercial trade strategies to drive the business into the future and beyond. By providing innovative leadership and strategic direction, this motivated person will lead a team pivotal in embedding category insights, customer needs, and brand ambitions into commercial plans that drive growth and competitiveness. This is a senior commercial leadership role driving the Opella commercial agenda internally and externally.
Main Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Lead the Commercial Strategy Team to develop and execute brand commercial trade strategies for the ANZ organization
- Lead the Annual Planning Process, translating brand plans and integrating sales and revenue management initiatives into achievable commercial plans
- Lead Go-to-Market strategies (inclusive of all 4Ps and NPD) tailored by channel and customer based on market evolution, business requirements, and portfolio goals
- Shape the innovation agenda with category opportunities, growth platforms and customer-based differentiation and innovation.
- Commercial Planning & Execution:
- Lead, coach and support the team to deliver Brand Commercial Plans (inclusive of all 4Ps and NPD ) and perfect store playbooks with clear growth strategies, objectives, goals, initiatives, and targets down to channel, strategic customer and shopper level
- Lead and guide the team to track readiness to deliver on targets and measure progress and performance against plans
- Lead and guide cross-functional teams to create clear commercial diagnostics of performance (competitiveness, plan delivery, and executional effectiveness). Lead the creation of necessary interventions and initiatives to improve performance
- Category & Customer Management:
- Lead the development and execution of long-term category strategies aligned with business goals and customer priorities across all channels.
- Lead the creation of a category and customer-focused agenda to support Joint Business Planning, category reviews, NPD decks, and range/space recommendations
- Create and deliver compelling category sell stories to external customers that link internal initiatives to external category growth opportunities
- Initiate, develop, and lead key projects to solve strategic category challenges
- Cross-Functional Leadership:
- Partner with Brand Leads to ensure customer centricity, category insights and strategy drive decision-making within brands
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to drive business growth and category development
- Represent Commercial in senior forums and drive alignment across functions.
- People Management: Create and lead a high performing team.
- Drive a High Performing Culture within direct and indirect team
- Lead, Coach and Motivate 8 direct report to maximise individuals potential and contribution.
- Get the best out of the team and empower brand managers to pursue outperformance vs the market.
- Manage the overall prioritisation, productivity and effectiveness of the Commercial Strategy team
- Actively develop talent through targeted development plans and coaching
- Actively address emerging performance gaps in a timely manner
- Health, Safety and Environment: Cooperate with Management to:
- Provide and maintain systems of work, and working environments that are safe and without risks to health.
- Provide the information, instruction, training and supervision necessary to ensure the health and safety of employees.
- Consult with employees about OHS matters so that they can contribute to decisions affecting their health, safety and welfare.
- Ensure the health and safety of people visiting or working who are not employees by not exposing them to risk.
- Comply with corporate and legal health and safety requirements.
- Identify and correct unsafe conditions or behaviours and immediately notify the Manager of any serious incidents; complete and Incident / Injury Report and forward to People & Culture within 48 hours where necessary.
- Undertake duties in accordance with the current Opella Policies and Procedures.
- Report non-conformance in accordance with the requirements of the Opella quality system
About You
We believe that professionals with the following experience and skillsets are well-suited for this position:
Essential Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or related field
- 10+ years of experience across sales, commercial strategy, brand management, or related roles. Senior sales leadership plus cross functional experience is essential.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing successful commercial strategies
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities
- Experience in FMCG industry
