SBA Underwriter (7(a) Lending)

Location: Remote – Washington

Join one of the Pacific Northwest's premier SBA lending teams. We are seeking an experienced SBA Underwriter to support a nationally recognized SBA platform originating approximately $100 million annually in SBA 7(a) loan production

This position partners closely with a team of five SBA Business Development Officers, providing timely, thorough credit analysis and underwriting support throughout the loan origination process. The ideal candidate possesses strong SBA lending expertise, excellent credit judgment, and a collaborative approach that helps move quality transactions efficiently from opportunity to approval.

This is a fully remote position for candidates located in Washington, Oregon, or Idaho

Primary Responsibilities

• Underwrite SBA 7(a) loan requests in accordance with SBA SOP requirements and internal credit policy.

• Analyze commercial borrowers' financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, collateral, industry trends, and repayment capacity.

• Prepare comprehensive credit memorandums and recommendations for approval.

• Structure transactions to balance prudent risk management with competitive lending solutions.

• Partner directly with SBA Business Development Officers to evaluate new opportunities, identify credit strengths and weaknesses, and recommend deal structures.

• Communicate underwriting requirements clearly while maintaining exceptional service levels for internal partners and borrowers.

• Review appraisals, environmental reports, business valuations, projections, and other due diligence materials.

• Ensure loans comply with SBA SOP guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal lending standards.

• Work collaboratively with closing, documentation, servicing, and credit administration teams to facilitate smooth loan closings.

• Maintain strong knowledge of evolving SBA regulations, SOP updates, and industry best practices.

• Assist with portfolio reviews, policy updates, and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or equivalent experience.

• Minimum 5 years of commercial credit underwriting experience, with significant SBA lending experience preferred.

• Demonstrated expertise underwriting SBA 7(a) loans from initial analysis through approval.

• Strong understanding of:

  • Commercial financial statement analysis

  • Cash flow analysis

  • Global cash flow

  • Business and personal tax return analysis

  • Collateral evaluation

  • Commercial loan structuring

• Working knowledge of SBA SOP requirements and eligibility guidelines.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

• Ability to prioritize multiple transactions while meeting production deadlines.

• Proficiency with commercial loan origination systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

• SBA lending certification or formal SBA underwriting training.

• Experience with delegated SBA lending programs (PLP preferred).

• Experience underwriting a broad range of owner-occupied commercial real estate, business acquisitions, partner buyouts, working capital, equipment financing, and business expansion loans.

• Familiarity with nCino, Abrigo, LaserPro, or similar commercial lending platforms.
