Job Description

The Commercial Banker is responsible for promoting the Bank’s commercial lending, deposit gathering, and non-interest income initiatives for their assigned territory. Manages an individual portfolio consisting of loans and deposits anywhere within the assigned market. Acquire new relationships by building connections within the community served, initiating and renewing commercial loans, and acquiring deposits to establish a whole, well-rounded relationship with the Bank. Participates and assists management with any sales campaign. Ensure loans are in compliance with sound lending practices and regulations.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with commercial clients, including regular visits to their premises.
  • Provides clients with tailored financial solutions and services to meet their needs, including loan origination, deposit gathering, cash management, and other services.
  • Conducts thorough financial analysis and underwriting of client's financial statements. Assists clients in navigating complex financial issues and provides advice and recommendations on improving their financial position.
  • Identifies and pursues new business opportunities with both existing and potential clients.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including credit underwriting, operations, and risk management, to ensure a seamless client experience.
  • Assists with the development of commercial loan business, deposits, and non-interest income.
  • Participates in civic and professional activities to enhance the bank’s visibility in the community.
  • Promotes a favorable image of the Bank in all business activities within the community.
  • Develops new deposit relationships with the growth of overall bank deposits as the goal.
  • Proactively cross-sells and/or refers Bank’s products and services.
  • Responsible for staying aware of and involved with the safety and soundness of the lending division.
  • Builds loan and deposits portfolios through proactive customer contact, sales and service activities.
  • Supports marketing strategies as they are related to introducing new products and services to prospective customers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Obeys all applicable federal laws, rules, and regulations relating to Anti-Money Laundering (AML) including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)

General Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of banking is strongly desired.
  • 5-10 years of experience in a financial institution with a focus on commercial and business banking as well as relationship management.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of credit guidelines, procedures, banking regulations, and compliance requirements related to commercial lending.
  • A solid understanding of credit underwriting, accounting, and financial analysis is preferred. Credit analysis and loan documentation experience is essential.
  • Knowledge of the Bank’s products and services is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of the markets within the Bank’s footprint and overall banking needs is required.
  • Proven ability to recognize and focus on critical sales and service delivery issues and to balance and respond to competing roles and organizational needs.
  • Experience in credit policy, analysis, and regulatory practice would be helpful.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills are required to develop and grow relationships with current and prospective customers and employees.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel programs is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word via email or verbally.
  • Exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, use your arm and legs and sit most of the time.
  • Have close visual acuity to perform activities such as analyzing data, viewing a computer terminal, reading, and preparing documentation.
  • Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
