At UGL Transport, we're looking for a commercially savvy and collaborative professional to join our team as Commercial Manager (Pre-Contracts).In this role, you will play a key part in shaping major transport infrastructure opportunities from their earliest stages. Working alongside bid, engineering, estimating and project leadership teams, you will provide commercial and contractual expertise that helps position UGL for success while managing risk and creating long-term value.This is a strategic role where your ability to build relationships, influence decision-making, solve complex commercial challenges, and negotiate successful outcomes will have a direct impact on winning and delivering major projects across Australia.You will be empowered to contribute your expertise, challenge thinking, and help drive innovative commercial solutions in a supportive and inclusive environment.What You'll Be Doing

Partner with bid and project teams to develop commercially robust and competitive tender submissions.

Identify, assess and communicate contractual and commercial risks, supporting effective mitigation strategies and informed decision-making.

Work closely with legal, operational and technical stakeholders to review contract terms and negotiate commercial outcomes.

Lead the preparation of commercial responses for major Expressions of Interest (EOIs), Requests for Proposal (RFPs), and tender submissions.

Support successful negotiations with clients, joint venture partners, and key suppliers during the pre-contract phase.

Contribute to the development of commercial strategies that enhance project outcomes and support business growth.

Coordinate commercial aspects of joint venture and consortium arrangements.

Ensure compliance with UGL Transport governance requirements while balancing commercial opportunity and risk management.

Collaborate with senior leaders to support strategic pursuits and major project opportunities.

Foster strong relationships across internal teams and external stakeholders to support successful project outcomes.

Represent UGL Transport professionally within industry networks and client forums.

About You

If your experience aligns closely with this role, we encourage you to apply, even if you don't meet every requirement listed below.Qualifications in Engineering, Commerce, Business, Law, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

Experience in commercial management within major infrastructure, transport, engineering, construction, defence, utilities, or other complex project environments.

Strong understanding of contract administration, commercial risk management, tendering, and procurement processes.

Experience working with complex contract models including Design & Construct (D&C), EPC, Alliance or comparable frameworks.

The ability to analyse issues, develop practical commercial solutions, and communicate confidently with a range of stakeholders.

Strong negotiation, relationship-building and influencing skills.

A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

Experience gained in rail, transport, defence, aviation, resources, utilities, or other safety-critical industries will be highly regarded.
