Senior Associate
& Summary
The Commercial Manager is accountable for the end-to-end commercial management of assigned key client accounts. The role exists to protect and enhance commercial performance, ensure contractual compliance, and provide structured, forward-looking commercial insight to Engagement Partners and senior leadership.
Operating as the primary commercial advisor to the Engagement Partner, this role owns the integrity of pricing, margin management, financial controls, and commercial governance across complex, multi-party engagements.
In its initial phase, the role is focused on establishing consistent commercial frameworks, documentation standards, financial discipline, and reporting cadence to stabilise and strengthen commercial management capability within Advisory.
Job Responsibilities:
Commercial Leadership
- Provide proactive commercial leadership across assigned accounts, ensuring commercial structures support both client outcomes and PwC’s risk and margin objectives.
- Act as the principal commercial advisor to the Engagement Partner on pricing, contracting, margin performance, risk exposure, and funding mechanisms.
- Maintain a forward-looking view of contractual obligations, financial commitments, delivery milestones, and commercial risk factors.
- Establish and maintain a clear commercial risk register, ensuring risks are documented, quantified where possible, and escalated appropriately.
- Lead structured monthly commercial reviews with Engagement Partners, providing clear visibility of margin performance, risk exposure, forecast position, and corrective actions where required.
- Where business unit or firm-level risk implications exist, clearly summarise the issue, financial exposure, and recommended course of action for the appropriate governance forums.
- Maintain and foster relationships with key client commercial stakeholders
- Manage relationships with other delivery partners to ensure alignment of deliverables, resolve disputes, and optimise collaboration.
Financial Oversight
Own the commercial integrity of forecasting, WIP management, billing accuracy, and margin performance across assigned engagements.
- Partner closely with the Advisory Finance team to ensure:
- Accurate monthly forecasting and reporting
- Timely and accurate invoicing
- Active management of aged WIP
- Clear cashflow visibility
- Proactively identify, manage and report financial risk factors across engagements, ensuring emerging risks and variances are clearly articulated and escalated to key stakeholders in a timely manner.
- Provide structured margin analysis, including variance against baseline pricing assumptions and identification of margin erosion drivers.
- Monitor cumulative contract value against approved scope and funding allocations.
- Ensure funding drawdowns occur in accordance with approvals and contractual terms.
- Provide clear and concise monthly commercial reporting to both internal leadership and the client, including commercial performance, risks, and forecast outlook.
Pricing and Commercial Modelling
- Own the pricing approach and commercial modelling for all assigned engagements.
- Act as a super user of the Consulting pricing model
- Develop, review, and validate pricing models for new engagements, contract extensions, and variations, ensuring:
- Linkage between scope, assumptions, resource mix, and financial outcomes
- Target margins are achieved and transparently understood
- Risk provisions and contingency assumptions are documented
- Scenario modelling is undertaken where complexity or uncertainty exists
- Provide independent challenge on pricing assumptions, delivery timelines, and resource composition to protect commercial outcomes.
- Ensure pricing assumptions are accurately reflected in contracts, Salesforce opportunities, and financial forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against pricing assumptions and identify early warning indicators of margin risk.
Contract Management and Governance
- Support the commercial aspects of negotiation, and ongoing management of contracts, statements of work, and variations.
- Ensure all contractual arrangements reflect agreed pricing structures, funding mechanisms, and commercial assumptions.
- Enforce formal change control processes to ensure scope variations are documented, priced, approved, and reflected in contractual documentation before delivery commences.
- Support compliance with relevant procurement frameworks, PwC policies, and contractual obligations.
- Maintain alignment between contractual position, Salesforce data, and financial reporting.
- Proactively identify commercial, contractual, and delivery risks and ensure timely escalation and mitigation planning.
- Ensure disciplined contract document management and compliance with PwC risk management standards.
Resourcing
- Facilitate structured monthly resourcing discussions with Engagement Partners and provide consolidated reporting to the client where required.
- Maintain accurate and current budget, forecast, and resourcing plans across PwC and relevant third-party delivery partners.
- Ensure resource onboarding is compliant with contractual requirements and internal standards.
- Monitor delivery capacity, utilisation assumptions, leave patterns, and associated commercial risks.
Continuous Improvement
- Establish and document standardised commercial management processes, templates, and reporting frameworks to improve consistency and reduce key-person dependency.
- Identify opportunities for simplification, automation, and system integration across commercial workflows.
- Embed disciplined use of Salesforce and financial systems to ensure data integrity.
- Develop practical playbooks and guidance materials to support scalable commercial management capability within Advisory.
- Mentor and upskill members of the broader commercial and account teams to improve commercial literacy and pricing discipline.
- Continuously review and refine quality control processes to strengthen commercial governance
