Job Description

At Sedgman, we deliver some of the world’s most complex mineral processing projects, supporting clients across the global resources and critical minerals sectors. As Commercial Manager, you will provide the commercial leadership, contractual discipline and strategic advice required to support the successful delivery of a major EPCM project.

Based in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, you will work closely with project leadership, legal, project controls, procurement and the client to manage contractual obligations, commercial risk, change and claims throughout project execution.

This is an opportunity to influence decisions at the centre of a complex project, create clarity around commercial exposure and help strengthen project performance, client relationships and sustainable profitability.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and implement the project’s commercial and contract administration strategies.
  • Provide expert commercial and contractual advice to project leadership and delivery teams.
  • Identify commercial risks and opportunities and develop strategies to eliminate, mitigate or realise them.
  • Support the negotiation and administration of project agreements including major equipment purchase orders, manufacturing and supply contracts and construction works packages. head contracts, subcontracts , purchase orders and other project agreements.
  • Manage EPCM contractual compliance notices, variations, claims, extensions of time and commercial correspondence.
  • Work with project controls to assess the cost and schedule implications of changes and emerging issues.
  • Support the resolution of significant contractual and commercial matters.
  • Lead commercial reviews and ensure compliance with contract administration policies, procedures and delegated authorities.
  • Maintain accurate registers, records and supporting documentation for commercial decisions and claims.
  • Build strong relationships with the client, internal stakeholders, suppliers, subcontractors and external advisers.
  • Provide commercial guidance and capability development to project personnel.
  • Lead with integrity, sound judgement and a strong focus on protecting project and business value.

What we’re looking for

You’re a commercially astute leader who can interpret complex contracts, anticipate exposure and develop practical strategies that protect value while supporting productive client and delivery relationships.

  • Tertiary qualification in engineering, commerce, quantity surveying, construction management or a related discipline.
  • Postgraduate contract law or commercial qualification is advantageous.
  • Extensive experience in engineering and construction contract negotiation, administration and claims management.
  • Strong understanding of commercial models used in EPC, EPCM and industrial project delivery.
  • Proven capability managing variations, claims, contractual notices and major and commercial issues and disputes.
  • Expert negotiation, stakeholder engagement and written communication skills.
  • Ability to translate commercial strategy into practical project action.
  • High professional ethics, integrity and sound commercial judgement.
  • Experience in the resources or mineral processing sector is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Brazilian commercial and contracting environments is advantageous.
  • Professional fluency in Portuguese and English is strongly preferred.
