Location: Northern California Counties

Position Type: Full-Time / Permanent or Subcontractor

Pay Range: $35-$50 / hour (DOE) + Performance Bonuses

About the Role

Are you an experienced Commercial Journeyman Plumber looking to elevate your career and work with cutting-edge clean energy technology?

As our Commercial Journeyman Plumber, you will play a critical role in leading our commercial hydronics and modern hot water system operations. You will head high-profile conversions and upgrades for hotels, schools, multi-family residences, and commercial facilities—replacing legacy gas boilers and water heaters with state-of-the-art Heat Pump Water Heater (HPWH) plant systems.

Because our commercial clients rely heavily on uninterrupted hot water service, you’ll serve as the main technical point of contact on site, blending master-level craftsmanship with top-tier client communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hydronic & HPWH Installations: Lead the retrofit, assembly, and integration of commercial heat pump water heaters, storage tanks, hydronic piping, and boiler replacement systems.
  • Piping & Joining Excellence: Execute precise brazing, soldering, and press-fit connection methods (e.g., ProPress) on copper water piping up to 2” (and larger iron/steel hydronic piping as required).
  • System Conversions: Safely decommission legacy gas boilers and domestic hot water systems, rerouting piping and fitting modern heat pump equipment to maximize efficiency.
  • Client & Project Communication: Deliver clear, professional, and proactive updates to facility managers, hotel operators, and project supervisors to minimize downtime during critical changeovers.
  • Quality & Safety Compliance: Ensure all installations strictly adhere to local plumbing codes, manufacturer specifications, OSHA safety guidelines, and company quality standards.
  • Troubleshooting & Testing: Perform system flushing, hydrostatic pressure testing, balancing, and initial commissioning of domestic hot water and hydronic loops.
Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: 4+ years of hands-on experience in commercial plumbing and/or commercial hydronics.
  • Licensing: Valid Journeyman Plumber License (or equivalent state credentials).
  • Technical Mastery: Proven proficiency in brazing and ProPress fitting techniques on copper piping up to 2”.
  • Hydronics Experience: Strong working knowledge of hydronic heating, boiler loops, pumps, expansion tanks, and commercial water heating distribution.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills—able to interface confidently with commercial clients, engineers, and internal dispatch teams under deadline-driven conditions.
  • Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Perks & Benefits

  • Competitive Pay: High hourly rate based on experience + performance incentive plans.
  • Advanced Training (Paid): Company-paid EPA 608 Certification & Refrigerant Training to help you broaden your skill set into heat pump technology and HVAC integration.
  • Comprehensive Health Coverage: Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance plans.
  • Retirement Plan: 401(k) with company matching program.
  • Paid Time Off: Generous PTO package + paid company holidays.
  • Company Vehicle & Tech: Fully stocked company service van, gas card, specialized tools (including press tools), and tablet.
  • Career Growth: Fast-track opportunities to advance into Lead Mechanical Foreman or Operations Management roles as our hydronic division grows.

Compensation: $35.00 - $50.00 per hour
